I assume @Vizsla had to take his wheels off and drop the truck to get enough reach out of it hahah

Nice! I bench pressed that bitch in when I did my Auburn.
Also the Auburn does not like corner burnouts or long ones. It was roasted after a year.

Anyone planning to REM polish them with the savings on the gears?

I’m going to look into it. Toasty mentioned a local shop for it at some point so I’ll see how much that sets me back if I go that route. This is going to be an expensive set of cheap gears…
TBD haha. I can probably make a hard down for a couple weeks work, but if I can find cores, I know others in the Basin will use them.

The problem with cores is the front, puts it in unknown territory for reusing the bearings. They are usually fine, but with an unknown core…

I’m definitely interested if I can find a business that is somewhat local to do it. I suppose maybe shipping to somewhere that would do it is always a possibility since I didn’t exactly pay much up front. Is the break in procedure the same if they are REM polished?

No break in prior required, none of the weird drive and stop to let cool, just run em. I did change my fluid at like 600miles just for S&G
Nothing alarming or big shavings to be seen. Also with polishing you don’t need to run hi end synthetic oils, you can just do Dino lube and call it a day since all the friction has already been polished off.
I like to post this link, and zuk basically agrees
    https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/ft-...0PnM2IIzySf4N8y1bqmK5qwm5Qv7fIpVgYwvhkDVTQqZv

I paid 40$ each way for both sets to be shipped to the polisher, look up the address and get a quote from your area. 150$ per set for polish, but I’ve seen cheaper quotes as well

There was definitely an inflection point somewhere in this thread where it went from “that’s a bad idea” to “hey I think these are legit.” Seem legit to me. :notsure:

I have to wonder if Motive made a big batch of these things and then they never gained footing in the tundra market and sat around. Now after 6 years maybe they said, hey let’s just dump these things! I just hope they prove to work well in our trucks. Who will be the first guinea pig to have them installed?

From the research I’ve done it seems that Motive has a pretty solid reputation in the general offroad community. I wish I was the first guinea pig to get them installed, but it’s going to be a while for me :anonymous:

I’ve personally run motive gears on 3 of my previous trucks, never had an issue. As long as you break in gears and they are set up correctly there should be no issues.

Can’t be any worse than the old Genuine Fears that 4WP used to sell. With their lifetime warranty on the parts only, they helped a lot of people get really fast at replacing gears…

I found a place within 45 minutes of my house for gear polishing. It’s in Quakertown @ZPhilip if that interests you. They charge 150/set for polishing and 7.75 per bearing if I did the bearings. I’m probably gonna go this route. What is the consensus on polishing the bearings, yay or nay?

Yeah you need the T10.5 for rear and T9 reverse for front.
