My old pads had mixed up old shims, so I'm going to replace with new ones, so I have a stoopid question. Do all sides of the shims get grease? I'm assuming so but I hate to assume.

    Thanx

The side that will rest against the back of the pad gets CRC Disc Brake Quiet (my preference), essentially gluing it to the pad. Observe the instructions on that stuff, there's a set time, you don't just squirt and install. The side of the shim that will now rest against the piston lip gets grease. Your slides should get emory-cloth'd and grease. I always clean before reinstalling, even if it's just taking a red shop towel and wiping all surfaces down.

Some pad replacements, like Advics (OEM for our trucks) come with shims pre-glued, all new clips, and compatible grease. Really made it a no-brainer. I was shocked how easy they made it. Pop off clips, slide out pins, slide out pads, reset pistons, slide in new pads with grease, clean/grease/reinstall pins and clips, and you're done. No torquing anything, because you don't remove a single bolt.

Anything between the solid shim and the vented one?

Ah, you have double shims. I can't answer that. I've only used solid shims, and it calls for adhesive, essentially. The FSM does show vented shims though, and where to install grease. It also appears to show using disc brake grease inside the caliper where the edge of the pad plate will potentially contact it.
