The 4Hi/4Lo Actuator is a black plastic box on the backside (rear) of the T-case, and there is a black rubber tube that connects to a nipple. These come off/crack/split and allow moisture into the actuator. Then the electric motor(s) can rust and seize. They can be repaired or replaced with little to no expense.

Do you know what size/model those motors are? I had no luck finding them online and they were so rusted that part numbers were long gone. I’ve ordered the entire assembly but of course wouldn’t mind saving some $$ by just replacing the motors. Thanks

There was something earlier in this thread or one on a “tundra talk” forum that sourced the little electric motors.

Are you just wanting the little motor itself? Or the complete actuator? My motor was rusted and frozen. I melted the solder, removed the little bugger, sprayed some PB Blaster on it and let it free it up, then finger turned the gear and it spun freely. Cleaned it, blew it dry, lubed it with white lithium grease, and resoldered it back in place. Works great. But, if that doesn't work, I did see somewhere in either this thread or one like it on this forum that a guy had taken a picture of that little motor and a link to where to buy them. They were like a buck and change or something really cheap. If you can't find that, and you can read the part number on your little motor, perhaps you could take it to a local electrical shop and they could source it. Unless you live in the boonies...I just spent 30 minutes searching for that pic and can't find it. Maybe on Talktalk.net? Sorry I couldn't be of more help...good luck!

Hey thanks for the message. Ya I just want the motor. I read somewhere it was a rs455pb3050 but I can't find anywhere. Mine won't come back to life unfortunately. It spins a little with a wrench but nothing with power to it.

How about this one? I did a search with the number you posted.

If you can't source one, you might want to try the next least expensive option. I bought another tested and warrantied transfer case with attached actuators from my local salvage yard for $350 bucks. It would be cheaper to replace the entire transfer case, with one that was tested and guarantied to work, than pay for yours to be dropped, split and then replace the faulty one. I was able to fix my little motor and returned the used transfer case back to the salvage yard with no problems. $350 vs. $5-7k that a local shop or the Toyota dealer quoted. Hope you can find the motor!

Hey thanks, I'll probably go ahead and try that one. I assume the gear comes off and can remount to the new one. Thanks so much for the help!

Wish you the best! Let us know how it turned out! By the way, was your vent tube off or cracked and allowed water/moisture into the actuator housing? When you reassemble it, make sure to follow the steps I and others have posted here to align the metal tabs on the contacts underneath the big gear that engages the actuator rods. There are a bunch of images/pictures of that part.

Ok here's my update. Finally got the motor after the 1st one arrived empty. It's way to big unfortunately. Still looking for a motor or just a new actuator at this point. $600-$700

For what it's worth here's what I came up with after some digging:

The actuator is manufactured by Mabuchi Motor Co, model # RS-455PB-3050 . I emailed them back in September asking how to source one, a spec sheet listing the voltages/RPM's/torque/etc. or a replacement model number since it seems to be discontinued. I got a response asking for "more details about your application", of which I obliged but have not heard back since (probably because I'm not a company looking to buy 1000x's of units).

I couldn't find anything regarding component specs, so I tried plugging their website into the Wayback machine, but they don't list their product catalogue in a way that archive.org can capture, so no luck ressurrecting their old site.

This one on Amazon is pretty close dimension-wise with multiple gears that would hopefully be the same/similar ratio as the original. No clue if it'll even work being it's 12v and I think signal voltage is 18 or 19v?

I'll probably end up getting one to at least try out when I have some extra time, because mine's way past just being able to free-up, so couldn't hurt right?

Did the Amazon motor work for you? What was your final solution?

How did that motor from Amazon work?

I want to order one for my back up parts for those times when everything goes wrong.
