I wouldn't sweat it yet then. Just keep an eye on it. 1-2 times per year, Toyota will discount their parts. You could keep an out out for a sale to ease the pain.

Thanks. Yeah I’m gonna need to get it checked. Unfortunately I was just looking and it seems the MC has been discontinued. At least on one site. And that would match what the lot told me, that they couldn’t find it. I’m guessing one was in a storage room at a dealership somewhere.

The hard pedal tells me that it could possibly be the booster. They are available, but to the tune north of $750.

Well, at least my ride home was stress free. I guess that’s over now.

    I wish I would’ve known about this before purchasing…

Drive them both and see which one fits you best. I've owned both a 1st and 2nd Gen. The 1st Gen has better outward visibility, but as a taller person, the 2nd Gen fits me better. It's all a matter of personal preference. Good luck on your decision!

I believe that the one member finally wound up with a sequoia master cylinder and had a successful outcome with it.

Well, after a little more testing today, I realize that it’s possible that I simply may not be accustomed to the brake pedal feel of a vehicle without a vacuum booster. I was able to actually get the ABS to actuate on hard pavement. The pedal just feels odd. When I asked my boy about it (he’s in high school vo-tech for diesel mechanic) he said that some of the bigger trucks have similar brake setups, with the pump as opposed to a vacuum booster. He said the feel was similar, with an almost on-off feel. Even if it is going, I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned with at this point, as it stops hard when required.

Any chance he did a write up here? I’d love to see what he did, just in case. I’m also intrigued.

It may be gone now. I just searched for it and couldn’t find it. It was on carfax, in Charlotte NC. Honestly, there’s a fair amount around the SE US. And some of them (like the one I just purchased) sit for weeks, some even months.

I don’t know how to link it, but this is the thread. He tried several options and finally found an original master cylinder. It turned out the sequoia one he bought leaked.

Congrats on the purchase. I know i am late to now what has become a story but, in my failed attempts to find a 1st gen ive broaded my horizons and upon researching 2ng gens stumbled here.

something tells me if i buy a second gen, ill end up selling for a 1st gen. Cheers!

I absolutely love the truck. And that’s saying something. In December I purchased a 2005 F150 with 78k miles on the clock. I never used it, regretted it the moment I bought it and my OCD wouldn’t relax until I got it out of my driveway. And I’m not exaggerating, I put 7 miles on it from when I drove it home until the day I sold it 2 months later.

With the Tundra, I’m planning things to do this week so I can drive it. And it was around 40° this morning, but I had the rear window open lol. The heat was blasting, but I had that window open.

Different vehicles, but when I bought my sequoia the brakes were like that. I had a semi-seized caliper. Easy to check for though, just pull the caliper and try to push back the pistons with a c clamp.

Took me a while, but finally finished my timing belt/water pump swap out. Saved myself $800 in labor, so it was worth it. I also got to see my truck up close to assess any possible hidden rust. The truck is even nicer than I had realized. No rusted bolts (although the rear ac bolt and the block drain we’re both seized due to dissimilar metals) and everything came apart nicely. I’m still shocked that this truck spent most of its life in MD.

I know that many here use an impact on the crank bolt, but I’m just not comfortable with that. So my project got delayed a couple of days until this lifesaver came to me. $26 on Amazon. Sure does beat the $220+ for the Toyota specialized tool.

Finding my trailer at a sensible price was nearly as difficult as finding the truck. But now I’m ready to start doing some business. Thanks all for the help with my choice. I don’t regret it even an iota. Had I chosen a 2GT, I know I would’ve, at least to a degree, wished I had gotten a 1GT. I guess I knew all along lol. Probably why I asked for help from members in this subforum. B8CEAB87-6887-4939-8359-85C4887F4B45.jpg

I have had a 2007 Tundra for the past 13 years. It has 89,000 miles on it and has had ZERO issues. This is the single most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned and I have no doubt it will go another 15 years.

That said, the smaller size, styling and reliability of the 2006 is very appealing and I’m considering selling my 07 to buy a similar mileage 06. I really love the looks of the 06, want a smaller footprint but still have acceptable towing.

However, timing belt and frame rust are very real concerns on the 06. Plus, I’d have to get the access cab to really save on length compared to my 07. My 07 has almost no even surface rust on the frame. I also don’t drive it in the salt.

My DC 4x4 Limited 07 with LS is in near mint condition and even so, I’m finding that I might not be able to afford an 06 AC with similar condition and miles after selling my 07 because it seems the G2’s aren’t holding their value like the G1’s.

I might have to cough up $4-$5k.

    Anyone disagree with me?

Side note replies to previous comments.
    1. I don’t consider my DC back seat “cramped”. I also get very reasonable gas mileage. Yes, it’s 13-14 in town but it’s 17-20 on the highway, 20 if I’m intentionally driving for fuel economy.

    Read this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

I don’t think your logic is bad. 2000-2006 has just as many rust probs as 2007 so I wouldn’t let that be a factor.

I'll get kicked off the island for this, but I prefer the 2nd gen (even though I've owned/own 3 first gens). The 2nd gen gets better mpg, noticeably more power, better towing, much more interior room and feels better put together in the interior to me.

It's funny that you'd lose money because I'd have a 2nd gen, but they are double the price of the 1st gens I've seen.

I was dead set on a 1st gen, and it's really hard to beat the size of them, but last few weeks have been leaning towards a 2.5 gen double cab for all of the reasons you mentioned. I'd really like to find a 2nd gen RCSB 4x4, but the wife is not a fan.

Yes - Agreed on all points.
The better styling, better G1 Access Cab maneuverability and lower bed rail height were all things attracting me to G1.

However, after reading the entire link Shifty sent me detailing many key points about G1’s, I have a whole new perspective on my prospects of finding a good G1.

Moreover, it’s even more apparent that I’m looking for a unicorn.

In addition to a perfect frame and underbody, I would need to have a Limited Access Cab with Leather (very rare), 4x4, great interior, great exterior, maintenance records and oh yes, would love blue paint with a matching fibrrglass camper top and CarPlay Aftermarket radio. . (I actually found most of that in a Dooblevab model at a dealer in Virginia).

I’ll keep looking but am skeptical I’ll find one.
I suspect I’ll be staying with the “Angel I know” until I find the unicorn.

Regarding G2 prices - I was just relaying what I’ve seen in my search for a G1. On cargurus, Edmonds, Cars.com, etc, searches give me G1’s and G2’s and the G2’s seem lesser expensive than the G1’s given same options, condition and mileage.

im wondering how this has turned out for PaulH? Its only been 4 mo's...

Im set on G1 AC V8 2WD, but the market is slim on this combo. Via same searches as quoted above, the DBL CABS seem to outnumber ACabs 10:1 [estimate] and otherwise ID trucks only differing in CAB, the DBLs are usually at least 10-20% more.
I'm only guessing, but part of problem seems to be general economics of buying NEW [inflation/loan rates] truck, as well as internet search&buy tools that maybe 10 yrs ago werent available, let alone all the car-flippers and car auction previewers.
So the market for G1s is getting evermore scarce while the search pressure [internet] increases even as asking$ goes up...

BTW: someone posted above that G2 is getting better MPG w/larger displacement engine vs G1's?
Apparently, I'm missing something in that logic.

ok, I just read the OPs 1st post; he's comparing the newer 4.6L to the 1st Gen 4.7L...i think?
If thats the case, yes bit more mpg + perceived power increase...or did I miss something?

    Logical or not, its true.

    2004 2WD AC 4.7 - 16 city / 19 highway
    2003 4WD AC 4.7 - 14 city / 16 highway
    2019 4WD CMax 5.7 - 15 city / 18 highway

These are the mpg averages that I have seen over the years. All with stock wheels and tires.

You need X torque transferred to the wheels to move the vehicle at some speed. This torque comes from the engine and is multiplied in transmission, transfer case, differential. Add a bigger engine that is capable of producing the same torque like a smaller displacement engine, and it can run at lower RPM. For that you need to decrease the multiplication somewhere in drivetrain, which G2 does. Now, if engine displacement difference is lower than RPM difference then it saves the fuel over smaller/less efficient engine.

In fact, wife recently drove her G2 Sequoia from MA to FL and back, with 3 adults and 2 kids in, and average MPG calculated by hands was 21.7. This is very close to what I was getting in my much smaller car with 2.5 turbo engine (which also requires a premium gas).
