I understand but I’m looking for the best for my goals. I ended up buying the new kicker KS 6x9 components. I’ll try them out and if I don’t like them I’ll send them back. If I need a extra tweeter they make one I can add for a true 3 way set up.

So I finally got around to installing the kicker 6 x 9 component woofer with the 2-3/4 mid range speaker in the dash. Although they both sounded good it was missing some thing so I ended up buying the same series 3/4 drilled out the sail panels and man does it sound good. It was exactly what I was missing and looking for. My next step is going to be to isolate each speaker with the kicker key amplifier. Right now if I try to play the music very loud the dash speaker distorts before the tweeter and the woofer but even then I can still play at a higher volume and have Chris clean sound but could be a lot better. I also bought the NVX silicone speaker rings and they also make a huge difference. Sound damping helps a lot too so you don’t have to turn up the volume high to hear the music at a good volume. Plus the ride is alot quieter This paired with new shocks all around because the factory shocks are way too soft makes the truck feel like a damn Cadillac

This thread got me thinking I'd like 6x9s in the rear doors of my DC. So, I made it happen. Much better than the 5.25s that were there. A nice complement to the component 6.5s I have up front.

I think it depends on what you have in mind for the music you listen to, and what, if anything, you want to retain from your factory system.

My “premium” JBL system was the first mod on my ‘17 1794 Tundra the first week I brought it home. I wanted to keep the factory HU with the navigation mainly because I didn’t want a bunch of aftermarket kit parts in the center of my dash that never look factory to me.

This meant going with a JL fix, at the time, to retain the factory HU and not have to eliminate the jbl amp. I went with an alpine digital amp, as they’ve always made quality amps in my experience, that take up a small footprint. Dynamat (or stinger mat from Amazon) went in along with having to remove seats, and panels everywhere. I went with 6.5 infinity kappa components in front & rear because they image well for not having to break the bank in cost from my experience. A single JL 10” went behind my rear seat. I wasn’t going for a wake the neighborhood system, just wanted clean and loud enough for when I’m not driving with others in the truck. Set up works well for it’s purpose (primarily rock/metal genre when it’s just me). I made custom mounts out of MDF and used a spray lacquer to prevent them from falling apart. 3+ years later, still going strong, no hiss, no clipping/cutoff at my listening volumes, just plenty loud and clean sound. YMMV

i did 6x9 3 way passive in front and jl c2 6.5 components in rear with 2 jl 8 inch micro subs (hit hard and clean Night and day. The real difference was being able to tweak everything thing with halo 9 crossover and the time alignment. Before the speakers were distorting at high volumes but added a 12 dB slope at 80hz and they sing and still sound clean. These are being amplified but the front speakers are tuning with passive crossovers. I’m going to add a kicker key amp so I can have the 6x9 woofers to play only low frequencies as now it plays some vocal which is fine but I rather keep them separate for the dash and tweeters only.

I had to remove the single side rear seat to install (it goes back in just fine) and there is a rear padded liner on the back wall that either has to be pulled up or cut for the clearance. The box just fits. I have the box positioned behind the middle seat.

I don’t recommend a sealed enclosure due to the area of the backseat. Ported will sound a lot louder but sealed will sound alot cleaner but nothing a good crossover can’t fix. Don’t be fooled by the size of the 8s they hit hard and sound cleaned especially when tuned right.

You can definitely make two eights hit hard…I run two eights for space reasons in my coupe car. The sealed is clean, but agree you can tune ported 8”s to be louder.

I just bought some budget minded but tried and true Infinity Reference component sets front and rear at $100 ea set. They are REF 9630CX 6X9 mids with tweeter and x-over and for the rear REF 6530CX 6-1/2 with tweeter and x-over as well. I'll start a thread on this build once it gets underway. The offroad trailer is taking priority right now but I really needs some better sound on my commute so I'll take a weekend and put these in real soon. Going to get the ********* thick door adapters for both pairs, sound insulation, and foam surrounds.

Well, the way that I have them crossed over, yes (as I have subs for the lows) mid bass is powerful. The tweets, however are the real star of the show. One of the complaints that a lot of people have with tweets in the sails on Tundras, is it makes them sound "too bright". The Excelon XR1800P tweets sound quality are superb! They deliver excellent, realistic highs without sounding "too bright" or "tinny".

I bought the infinity reference 6x9 speakers and I was not very impressed. If you’re looking for fast rings look at the NVX silicone speaker baffles. They work great and they keep water off of the speakers without the baffle getting damaged.

What do you have them crossed over at? Are you using the passive crossover’s or are you running active? Right now I’m running passive at 80hz no slope bc the passives already come with a 12DB slope. In the future will be running active once I save enough money for the 8 channel DSP I buy JL. My only complaint about the kicker is is that the HPF crossover that came with the woofer allows some vocals to come through. So I ended up buying some LPF crossover’s at 600 hz And now the woofer only plays mid base and the highs comes from the front stage only.

What kinda of money are you wanting to spend? I have installed the Kenwood 6x9 component designed for the toyota and the Hertz k170 components. Both sound good for setups on the cheaper side.

8's aren't going to hit the lows that 10's and 12's do. I have 4 8's in my 05 and they just can't hit the bottom like my 2 10's in the 19. I'm running Infinity front, rear and subs in the 19. I have the build for it in my sig. I went retarded with the 05. I have Kicker SS components. They're 5.25's in Q logic kick pods and 8" in the door, added a center behind the mirror. That doesn't help with 3rd gen though.

I don’t know these 8s get down pretty low. If I wanted to upgrade I would do 12s but I’m over that. I’ve had big systems before but not my thing anymore.
