I actually plan on purchasing a CZ in 18’. I have heard plenty of reviews on hear and 20 other forums I’m on. There has to be something to that.

My preferred firearm is Sig Sauer, but they cost more than a lot of other firearms. Always felt that if I drop one I'd be so mad at myself, so I bought a Glock 27 and a S&W 9 shield as my Cow's. Personally I don't feel I shoot them as well as my Sigs, but better than having no firearm.

As has been suggested go shoot a bunch. See what works for you best. I’m partial to Glock for the same reasons I now own a Tundra (also, think about @joonbug ’s detailing regimen nearly lines up with what you need to do to make a G go boom).

Pick one of the big 3 calibers (cost, availability). Modern defense ammo makes the caliber debate rather silly. I’m a 9 guy (follow ups, & more rounds) I prefer Speer Gold dot 124gr +P jhp’s on my side. Glocks will eat any trash ball ammo you run through them with out hanging up.

Take a defensive handgun class. Join a range (preferably one that will let you draw). SHOOT ALL OF THE TIME. PRACTICE PERFECTLY. Practice with both hands, both eyes.

I’d start with something in the G19 range for size. You’re not going to want to run 500 rounds through an ultra subcompact single stack - esp with defense ammo. Your wrist and wallet will thank you. Eventually, if you want something ultra concealable, go that route, but no need to practice with it any further than 7yds. The Chris Kyle range heroes will maybe chuckle but don’t pay any attention to them. Most of real world scenarios are happening inside the 7yd range. If not, the bad guy probably isn’t gonna be very effective either.

    Center of mass.

Head shots are for video gamers. If you get ultra dialed in with your weapon, the carotid arteries are on either side of the neck. A couple of rounds in that 4” circle will do the trick pretty quickly and there’s no skull bone to block your shot.

    Center of mass.

Wow - I can't believe I went through this entire thread and nobody mentioned a revolver. If you want a true CC for protection get a revolver - period! It is idiot proof, you point and squeeze trigger end of story - nothing to think about - nothing to jam. Spend your time at range practicing shooting and drawing. Short of a SEAL - you are not trained to deal with a jam and quickly clear it - in a high pressure situation - so why add the small chance of having a jam, or cycling through it in a high pressure situation. In reality you need it to go BOOM once maybe twice, you don't need 12 rounds to defend yourself against zombie's. That's my 2 cents.

I'm of the opinion that you should bring as much gun to the fight as possible...5-6 rounds with no easy reloads and no "easy" fix for when things do go wrong with the gun...revolvers just aren't the best option most of the time

I have a couple, and know a few that carry them but I almost always opt for a modern semi auto

Whatever you decide on learn to use it properly. A class and/or lots of practice. I see too many people just go buy one and start carrying without a clue about the how's and whys and all that.

We can argue about brand and caliber all day, but knowing how to use it is something we can all agree on.

Personally I'm a glock man. But there are several good choices out there.

Plan and simple-go with what feels good. If you don't have a EDC yet you will not know what you like and dislike until you do it. There is some trial and error. Comfort and function over style. You can learn to shoot anything. Make range days part of your weekly routine. In my experience it is often the Indian not the arrow!

I don't care for my revolver....might be because it's a .357 snub nose. I also dislike the weight of any revolver when it comes to CC.

It's honestly all preference and what feels right to you.

Add in adrenaline and high stress while shooting your less likely to hit your target. I'll take my 15rds in the mag and 1 in the chamber....better chances. Besides....drugs do a hell of a thing to people and a handful of bullets doesn't necessarily stop them.

I have 3 revolvers. I rarely carry one. I also train regularly to clear a malfunction and I’ll take as much ammo as my CC will carry. Try reloading a revolver in a stressful situation. I also have run enough through my EDCC with the same ammo to know the odds of a malfunction are quite low. I am a fan of revolvers but IMO I would rather carry a SA.

Wes here's a suggestion. As mentioned above about the CZ 75 or in general, not a lot of people know about it. The same can be said for my Canik TP9V2. Turkish Special Forces imported by Century Arm's. This is a full 9mm with adjustable rear sights, pictanny rail. 2-18 rd mags. Single/Double action with a decocker. I have put over a 1k + rds through it (all brass) and not1 failure or hiccup. Semi hard grip, no need to upgrade at all. Case and everything in it plus shipping/FFL fees ..... $350 out the door. Price might be variable. I will say this it's a little big for CC, but with the right holster. Definitely a good home protector.

I purchased a P238 two tone for my wife ... liked it so much I ended up buying a different one (a rainbow version) for her instead and kept the two tone for myself. Would make a excellent CCW but the cost to purchase one in California makes them safe queens.

They are great for concealed carry. I loved varying my exes when he wasn't.....but then he left it in the truck and it was stolen. I had bought it for him for a graduation gift for graduating state trooper academy. Should have just bought it for myself.......
