That's awesome - except the thread aint about you. Maybe read the quote/question again from the OP.

"I’ll be honest that I don’t currently own a gun and has been a long time since I’ve used one."

My suggestion to someone that is asking about CC with that type of experience is a revolver. You practice, you point, you shoot, you don't have to worry about all the functions, jams etc. Some of y'all been watching too many Bruce Willis movies.

I’m going to try to keep a level head here so bear with me.

If you’re suggesting that someone conceal carry with the capacity to take another life (in self defense of course) and can’t be bothered to be responsible enough to learn their platform well enough to clear a malfunction -

THEN THEY SHOULDNT FUCKING CONCEAL CARRY.

    1. BE SAFE.
    2. Be competent.
    3. Be responsible.

    Yippee Ki-yay.

I doubt that anyone missed anything you said. Including your post "...Except when your auto jams." which obviously WAS directed at 4x4 Angel's post that immediately preceded it.

You gave your opinion, Let it lie.

You're right its not about me. & I don't watch Bruce Willis movies.

YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE WITH EITHER PLATFORM....so what difference does it make if it's SA or a revolver? You think revolvers are problem free? They aren't...I've seen one malfunction. Is it less likely....sure! But again...they should go to a range, rent different types of guns, find what THEY ARE MOST COMFORTABLE WITH...and PRACTICE. Period. Our preferences really don't matter at the end of the day. And if you practice with either a lot it with become second nature to you.

Whatever gun I do go with, I'll be sure to learn the weapon inside and out first. Practice with it, take a safety course, and all that before I ever go through the CC part. I'm not just going to instantly rush into it. I do appreciate all the advice though and take everything into thought.

I'm not Bruce Willis, though I have stayed at a few Holiday Inn Expresses.
Solid advice in here. Me I like the XDs, Sig and FNH. Why? Fit, function and I like high barreled pistols. All 3 for me also provide a natural POA, almost instinctive.
Whatever you get make sure it fits, take a class or two and shoot the SHIT out of it until it's muscle memory like has been said by 4x4Angel.

I agree with most of what has been said here. Go check out some guns, handle them, and most importantly shoot them. If you plan to carry consider that into your decision for a gun. Flat out you won't carry a gun that isn't comfortable, and isn't concealable. Also make sure a good quality belt and a nice holster is factored into your budget. This is often over looked and not having those things can make CC a nightmare. Once you make your decision practice often. Like 4x4angel says you want operating that weapon to be second nature.

If you are still in the market I highly recommend the CZ P-01. It's small enough to comfortably conceal but large enough to be used as a serious range gun.

14 rounds of 9mm magazine capacity. Light weight alloy frame. Slide rides INSIDE the frame instead of on top which makes recoil extremely manageable when compared to other 9mm pistols of comparable size. Everyone who has shot any of my CZs has become a convert.

I agree with everyone who says to go rent a few different guns and try them out. If you can get your hands on a CZ P-01, PCR, or even a full-frame 75 you should try it out. Ultimately you should get what is comfortable to you.

A little this and that...Broke now
Once you figure out what suits you best spend the time and money on ammo and good training...then train some more...including being in a position of disadvantage .. because evil people train too and they will get the drop on you if you are not prepared..Lastly..once that first round kicks off you will resort to the level that you trained at there is no "rising to the occasion"...you train like beast you fight like one..you sucked ass and didn't train..the results will be painful.

+1. There are plenty of good guns out there. Pretty much anything from one of the major manufactures will be a quality, reliably weapon (assuming you handle and maintain it properly). Nobody on the internet can tell you what's right for you, all they can tell you is what they went with and what their reasoning was that went into their decision. What may have been right for them probably won't have anything to do with your situation.

Trying different guns is the only way to know what works for you but keep in mind, it's not just about how the gun "feels" in your hand. How it points and how well you can operate the controls, do reloads and of course how well you can shoot it are all important.

You also need to read up on and understand the differences between the different types off triggers (SA's, DA/SA's, DAO, Glock's "Safe Action" or variations of it). I would also look into the availability of extra magazines, holsters, etc..

Lastly, after you get something, Training and practice are keys. Simply owning a gun isn't going to save your life. You have to know how to properly use it and then continuously practice the skills you learn.

    Good luck
