Here's my 2007 SR5 with 178,000. I've only had to replace front axles, starter, and u-joints. Only thing I ever complain about is 280miles to a tank of fuel.00000IMG_00000_BURST20180826141818452_COVER.jpg

What I want in a Tundra (as an option):
    240A alternator
Full-floating rear axle with some extra ribs in the carrier and housing
    3-inch wide leaf springs
Stronger frame (at least aft of the cab)
Slightly larger front differential (The weight rating of the AAM 9.25" in the front of a gas powered Chevy 2500 is only 4400 lbs, not much more than the 3950lbs of the Tundra 8.7" front differential)

I can' talk too much about GM's current stuff. Personally, I prefer to see a solid front axle for a HD truck. All the problems you're referring to for the older trucks don't surprise me. The domestic OEM trucks weren't well-built back then. Nowadays, I think the build quality is much better, at least in the 3/4 and 1 ton market segments. 1/2 ton trucks I still think are under-built, with the Tundra being the main exception.

Looks like about 40 bundles of shingles there. 70 lbs per bundle. 2800 lbs. Plus whatever is under the tarp....plus the driver.

    Payload is around 1600ish.

    Way to go.

Curious, but what happened to your front axles? Boots or the axles themselves snapped? Also, what happened to your u-joints that required replacement?

Driver side axle caught a piece of wire and ripped the CV boot, passenger side came apart completely. Carrier bearing went out and I believe that's what did the u joints in..all easy fixes. Except the starter, that was a pain. Horrible location

Now 280 is when the fuel light comes on, I always put in 21 gallons. So I figure there is 5 more gallons actually left in the tank, which would put me kicking pavement at about 340 miles total. Figuring the 12mpg LOL
