There are a couple threads on this subject, so I am going to post this a more than once.
I had my passenger side cats stolen. I have insurance so the cost was not the issue. Getting cats was.
Since I was unable to get OEM, I bought MagnaFlow. There is a HM (heavy metal) version. I did NOT get that one. Bought the Magnaflow #49630
I used the old O2 sensor next to the exhaust manifold (I think it is also called upstream). Bought the lower O2 sensor (down stream? The one in between the cats.) new from the dealer. I was trying to eliminate the chance of O2 check engine light.
I have run the truck for over 100 miles on about 5 trips. The first trip I ran it for over 1 hour. No check engine light and no errors on my OBD2 reader.
So far so good. Fingers crossed.

My cats went bad and I went with magnaflow direct replacements. Just unbolts old front pipes and installed the magnaflow front pipes, never threw a catalyst inefficiency code with them. Since then got ARH long tubes with cats and ecu doesn’t like them. I installed 90 degree defoulers and no CEL anymore.

I have Similar issue however I Have 2012 5.7L Tundra 4x4. All 4 Cats where stolen. Covered by insurance ($5K), took to Geico repair facility and Cats were on back order. took 2 months and got it back with new cats and new O2 sensors (OEM). drove 10 miles and CEL came on. Geico facility basically said "Not my problem, we replaced the cats and the CEL is something in the engine". SO I took it to the dealer and they said the O2 sensors were bad and replaced all 4 ($2K). still getting CEL. Bought OBDII reader and getting P0174 code. Cleared code and comes back on after 50 miles. Took back to the dealer and they said when the thieves cut the pipe they cut the Sensor wires too which grounded the ECU and i will need a new ECU ($2k). Help :(

Go back to geico and tell them it was caused during the theft.

And tell them to pay for the dealer charges since the CEL was caused by them not fixing the cat's properly.

Did Geico install Toyota OEM cats or aftermarket? Anyway, $2K for O2 sensors sounds outrageous. I don’t remember what I paid for the two rear O2 sensors, but I think it might’ve been around $200-$300. As for grounding the ECU, I’ve heard from two other shops of that happening as well and that it can be pricey. I’d go to Geico and tell them the shop discovered additional damage and for Geico to pay for it.

    New Member here guys,
I just wanted to add a little to this thread. 2012 Tundra 5.7.
Our truck had both drivers and passengers cats stolen. We bought new cats online. Plug and play.
Ordered two Denso O2 sensors and we are getting a code for downstream passenger side O2. We have cleared the codes a few times, but we are going to drive around for a few hundred miles and see if it clears.
The Denso sensors we purchased did not indicate up or down stream. So I am wondering if the ones we got were upstream, Though, I don't know if they read differently.

The new cats were toyota OEM or magnaflow? or other?
Where did you buy the o2 sensors? The question has been raised if the sensors bought at Toyota are different than the ones bought from an auto parts store.

Good Question. The Cat came from Car parts dot com and was the least expensive option. The o2 sensors were Denso from Amazon. $42.00 each.

Replace the Air fuel ratio sensor on the bank your o2 sensor code keeps coming back. I have found if you are getting o2 sensor circuit low or high both need replacement (o2 and af sensors).

Just adding a little confirmation here. Same issue. ECU is fired all oem parts. Got stolen at Toyota and all replaced by Toyota. Waiting a few months for a new ECU now…
