Also more likely to crud up your lines and injectors with bottom of the tank sediment goodness when you go to zero over and over.

That's what the pickup sock is for and inline filter(some are permanent), baffles, don't see how fuel level would change anything. Our tanks have such a large reserve past the miles to empty and I myself did this as I was waiting for the fuel line recall part to come in on back order and still was unable to get 30 gals in it. Display showed refuel now and this was due to the circumstances and wasn't trying to see how far I could go. I now know we have alot of buffer in our tanks and that's a good thing.

That’s a benefit of newer vehicles for sure. Every friend and acquaintance I’ve known with an older vehicle who consistently runs it to empty comes to me and I have to replace spark plugs every time. Those who don’t never have sludge in their lines.

Suppose that’s more for folks who like their older vehicles though. More precautions and less build up in a 1 year old vehicle vs a 21 year old one ha. Cheers.

I was a habitual refueler and used to refuel at 3/4 full. I’ve gotten a little better and let it go to half now.

I always run my 2023 down to 0-10 miles left and the most fuel it’s ever taken to fill up is 28.25 gallons. The pump will be okay folks, no need to panic.

    I tow a 10-12k trailer 400-1200 miles quite often.

I run it down to 0 and then look for a truck stop to refuel at. I have never put in more than 28.x gallons.

At 9MPG, this is only a bit over 250 miles. Stopping more frequently would be a major inconvenience.

    Yes.

If we have a 32 gallon tank, and "0 miles left" is at ~26.5 gallons is it not OK to go a bit further?

I paid for the whole fuel gauge and I'm going to use the whole gauge.

I'm not sure how/why/where it started, but there is no reserve, or reserve tank.
You have one tank and they set the idiot light to go on when you still have roughly 8 gal left.
Most likely because with the shape/length of the tank, 8 gal doesn't bring the level of the fuel up very high in the tank.
Don't over think it. When the light goes on, get more fuel asap.

This guy gets it. The level of gas in the tank is very low with several gallons left because the tank is long and skinny. Read, not deep.

Meaning… the full pump is not submerged sufficiently by fuel, which cools your fuel pump and protects its from damage…
    But hey, let’s live dangerously.

I try to get gas at 1/4 tank, but sometimes life happens...

My last fill-up I waited till zero miles left, then drive it for another day about 15 miles in the city, then filled up 27.5 gallons, meaning that I still had about 4.5 gallons in the tank.

No thanks. You're making those So Cal folks happy that they aren't the only ones over paying for gas.

Generally, I wait til my light comes on then get gas within 20 miles if I'm in town. If I'm on a road trip I pay better attention and get gas around 1/4 tank. On road trips I don't like stopping a lot so I do tend to time it close to where the light will come on when I'm getting gas. And thanks to Google maps this is easy to do and plan for.

I guess I'm just a bit anal... actually, I'm anal, not just a bit... I drive long distances frequently -500+ miles. I KNOW the range of my truck (I hand calculate MPG, even accounting for larger tire diameter.) I KNOW where the gas stations are. I KNOW where I'm stopping for gas. I KNOW where the best prices for gas are. I don't think I've ever put more than 23-24 gallons in at a time. I don't trust the gas gauge or the "miles to empty" reading. I don't have the luxury of having many gas stations to choose from.
I have worked in the auto repair industry and I understand all of your comments about cooling the fuel pump -BUT, I also believe that Toyota is smarter than me and all of you -AND, if it was so easy to overheat your fuel pump, Toyota would have circumvented (engineered) around it. I'm now on my 3rd Toyota and I've never replaced a fuel pump. Just one of the reasons I buy Toyotas -probably why you do too!

So, that's $126+ US (today) for +/- 15 gallons which is +/-57 liters = $2.17/liter US --- Yeah, you all are screwed by your government on the price of fuel -especially considering how much oil you pump out of the ground.
As I stated above, I'm anal, so for our ski trip to Kicking Horse and Fernie last January, I knew that I would fill my tank in the US as close to the boarder as possible and how much of your expensive gas to put into my tank to get back.

You lost me on your math. I pumped 22.28 gallons the other day. Total cost was $80. That's 84.34 liters.

Edit: wait a sec here. I think you meant to reply to @Hella Krusty. And hence my confusion.

Yes, I replied to your post but meant to reply to @Hella Krusty. I did the math (3.8 L/ US Gal. & Can. $ = 0.74 US $ -I'm ANAL! and good with numbers!)

I ran to almost empty yesterday on my TRD Pro because I was running some fuel cleaner through it. I think I had in the ballpark of 15 miles left. I filled up and it took just over 30 gallons. No light came on or alert to refuel.
