so with a not perfect, but much better tune for the truck. drive to indy was 10mpg. drive home was 15mpg. no longer rich smelling at idle. so with 4.10s i think my fuel mileage would be back to stock. 4.30 would likely be best. but 32" tires are next for this truck when these 33s run out.. i think 4.30 may be too much for those.

15 is better than 10. Let me ask you this; with the headaches that the long tubes have caused you, any regrets or was it all worth it?

IF i can convince him his times worth it, i would love to get the truck on an actual dyno and have him properly tune it... if he convinces me to do the kelford 264/258 cams on the truck i bed he would

but the USD to AUD conversion is also tempting me to do the elate 4.7 TVS blower setup

This formula will help anyone who is thinking about regearing. Also, If you're not convinced, call Nitro Gear/Just Differential and pick their brain.

When you go thru the settings, I can't remember what it's called, but its a % value. Following the results from this graph, you'd set the value to 9.2%. If there are no 1/10ths, obviously drop the .2iScreen Shoter - 20221028102701829.jpg

My truck never really set rich codes. It just had -10/-15 fuel trims all the time

as of now I’m at -4

I'm on stock 30.6" and kind of want 4.30's... especially if towing.

Just going off the feel after all the exhaust and what not I’ve done. This trucks not hurting for power even towing 7,000 lbs. it’s just a little lower rpm than I’d like at a highway speeds. I think 4.10 would be perfect. But really what I need to do is get it in a dyno and see where its peak torque is and go from there.

The trucks peaking at ~83% volumetric efficiency. I think Kelford 264/258 cams and raising the rpm up to 6200 would actually make fuel economy better and break past 300hp at the wheels. Which would be damn close to 100% VE.

the 4.7 based off the numbers it’s giving now is making as much torque as my 3.5 in the mr2. And much less power. She wants to be waken up.. and I’ll probably do it. So gearing for me may be a bit different than what others should go with

It's a year long bump. but i found the first part of this thread interesting. But my main question is, just what size is y'alls stock tire size? The door jam sticker on my 2000 4wd AC shows that mine came with 245/70-16 tires (29.5" tall). While the door jam sticker on my 2004 2wd AC jam sticker shows a 265/70-16 (30.6'' tall). Both trucks came with 3.90 gears (well really close to that anyhow).

In order to get the 265 tires to give the same rpm to speed ratio as the 245, then you would want swap out the 3.90 for a 4.10 gears. So if that's the case, then i would think that if i had 265 tires as stock, then swapping to around a 4.30 gear ratio would be like having 3.90 gears with a 245 tire. If that's the case, then i think i might keep an eye out for a a used 4.30 geared 3rd member and front diff (out of a v6 model).

Feel free to discuss. I'm hoping i worded all of that correctly.

But 4.56's are available new & arent gonna hurt much on the highway at 65...might hurt a little at 85.

The only reason i would contemplate 4.30 gears is that it most likely cost less to simply buy them already set up in a 3rd member. It would make is a quick and easy swap. But if it all would cost the same price, then sure, i would probably go with a 4.56 (if i was running about a 33" tire). I don't drive fast (usually 55mph) so the only time i see 85mph is if i'm coasting downhill in neutral.

    I went 4.10's as they're readily available from 1st gen sequoia's.

4.3's are a pita to source.

ahhh...good to know about trying to find a pair of 4.3's. I won't get my hopes up then. I don't know if it the juice would be worth the squeeze for dropping from a 3.90 to a 4.10 because there's not much of a difference between the two. I currently have other vehicles that i've had regeared (77 f250 4x4 v8 460 from a 2.72 to a 3.73 32'' tires, gm V8 CJ7 from a 3.54 to a 4.88 with 35'' tires, cj7 6cyl 4.10 to a 4.56 32'' tires). It just seems like a lot of $$$ for such a little bit of gear change.

How much of a difference did you notice between the Tundra's 3.9 and the Sequioa's 4.10 gear swap?...because there is currently a 2001 Sequoia at a wrecking yard that i was eyeballing...

I have the later 5sp trans so it made a bigger difference for me with the shorter 1st & 2nd gears. Accel is better and mileage is better. I'm also 2wd.

MPG went from 12-13 around town to 15-16 and freeway (65-67mph) 17-18 to 19-20.

    I got between 12-13mpg towing a car & trailer.

Now i’m tempted to go back to the wrecking yard and pull the rear 3rd member and front differential out the 4.10 geared Sequoia...
