I test drove a 24 Limited TRD OR Hybrid today (currently have a 22 non-hybrid) and can definitely notice a difference. The power/torque comes on immediately and acceleration up to 80mph felt effortless. Also, I think the 24MY Tundras have slightly better fit and finish, it was very quiet and smooth.

Do you really think your truck is more fun then a raptor or a trx?

How steep, how heavy and for how long?
With the additional power and torque the hybrid would take the lead. By quite a bit I expect. There is a lot more space under that torque curve.
If you ran long enough for the battery to be depleted on the hybrid, I expect that it would maintain that lead. At that point they are equal in power output.
The fairly small weight addition of the hybrid vs. the trailer weight would not really play into the equation.... Unless your tow battle went for many miles....

Haven’t you been reading this thread? The 1.87 kWh battery pack never runs out of power. EVER.

I feel like you are not constructively contributing to the conversation with that comment.
You are correct, the truck will not let the battery be totally depleted.
But it will stop using it when it gets low enough. It is not very big so the time that it is available is not very long.
In the towing scenario above (towing up a hill at full power output), I think that you would be surprised how much of an advantage it does bring to the table before the truck stop using it.

2004 Honda accord V-6 Hybrid did this prior. I know I really wanted one but couldn't afford it at the time.

The hybrid that always could have happened finally did. This is a performance car that gets excellent mileage, too.

In the Honda line, this is the best Accord, just as the Civic hybrid is the best Civic. But the Accord pushes the envelope to include 0-to-60 in 6.7 seconds in a comfy five-passenger sedan while, according to the EPA, achieving 30 mpg city, 37 highway. Yes! Consider: The four-cylinder automatic Accord does only 24 city and 34 highway. With today's technology, only a hybrid could hit all of these marks.

This primo Accord naturally has the highest price, about $30,000 base, Honda says, including automatic, leather, heated seats, AM-FM-satellite radio and six-CD changer, anti-lock brakes, and curtain airbags; the only option is a nav system.

It also has the best performance of any Accord four-door, outrunning the V-6 automatic by 0.3 second to 60 mph and 1 mph in the quarter, to 93 mph in the end zone.

I have owned two Raptors and yes, the Limited trim and up in the Tundra is as fun as a Raptor or more fun. The Raptor R and TRX would have to be a separate consideration.

I look at cars all the time to be fast or faster than my STI and I just do not come up with much. I would not mind have a 2-3 second 0-60 ride but most Porsches other than the 911 Turbo S are 3.5-4.5 seconds to sixty and I am like my car can do that. Unimpressed

Although get to 2-3 seconds, it makes a difference.

Actual towing a travel trailer up Halloran Summit from L.A. to Vegas.

Hybrid kicked in at low rpm, and backed out when speed exceeded 45mph or so. Turbos only after that. Traffic slowed requiring acceleration to other lanes, hybrid kicked in again to assist. All seamless and the power was there, enabling me to pass slow moving big rigs (and some cars!) going uphill in the truck lane.

    My travel trailer:

This thread is pretty much a circle jerk at this point. Either you like the hybrid and think the added power justifes the cost, or you don't. / thread

Then spends 1/2 hr looking for a charger and 40 minutes to get to 80% again after another 1/2 hour parking and unhooking the trailer so it doesn't block the other chargers or people driving though the area.

All while the Porsche heads for a fun ride home.

All of that is true. It is not for everyone.
However, I challenge you to build a truck that will do that (gas or diesel). It cannot cost more than a CyberTruck will cost.
It is an impressive piece of engineering. That is A LOT of power to put down while maintaining a good ride, perfect drivability and all of the other amenities that a top shelf vehicle offers.

Cybertruck is freaking weird looking but it stopped bullets from a machine gun, Rogan shot an arrow at it and it didn't leave a dent. I would like to see an AR taken to it and see what it does. The Cybertruck is legit and so is the new EV Hummer.

People think the 3rd gen Tundra looks goofy? Cybertruck power, great, but that looks like a cartoon mad max truck. I just could not do that. That is an impressive feat though.

I've owned a 22 TRD OR Non Hybrid and now a 23 TRD Pro Hybrid.

Just some observations with about 10K driven on both Tundra's.

    • The 22 is not under powered. Actually pretty quick.
    • The huge difference between the the two is the Hybrid torque. It's immediate and you feel the difference up to 3000 RPM.
    • MPG: The Non Hybrid does better on the road- about 1.5 to 2 MPG more. The hybrid does better around town by 1.5 to 2 MPG.
    • Both Tundra's drove nice around town and on the highway. For me (personal preference) prefer the TRD Pro suspension and ride. Comparing the two, its more planted and a much better ride. Off the road, no brainer, the TRD Pro.
    • Quality. Had a Nov 21 Build for the 22 and the 23 is an October 22 Build. Quality much improved on the 23 with fit and finish. No rattles or any other issues. Have had two quality fixes on the 23. Replaced the Odometer due to cracked bezel and the Driver seat panel cracked. Nothing on the 22 Tundra.

did you research the truck before buying? They’re pretty open that fuel economy was not their goal with the hybrid.

I’m currently driving my step dad’s eco boost while visiting and my tundra does get better mileage. Not much but better.

too many people seem to buy the hybrid trucks thinking it’s designed to be fuel efficient. I’ll never understand how people spend so much money without doing research first.

In defense of the confusion over performance vs. MPG, the two dealers I drove Tundras at it in May were pretty blurry about it. If you leaned performance, they were going to follow you there. If you leaned MPG, they leaned like a Prius.

I think it's a great system and makes the Tundra lighter on it's feet around town. I just needed the rear seat storage.

Funny thing is, all these years I've been hitting the forest service roads here in CO, I've never seen a Raptor. I usually spot them at the mall though.

In all fairness the Raptor is pretty wide and a lot of the forest service roads here are nothing but narrow jeep trails. I think the Raptor excels on the desert and such.

I'm don't understand the lack of research as well.

You should of seen the number of buyers that were so disappointed in the Eco Boost gas mileage, early on. Over & over & over & over we had to explain it is Eco or Boost your choice. I've had 2 of them and now have Silverado 2.7L 4 cylinder turbo as a company provided vehicle. Great quick power but drink the gas fast when in boost. If you drive them normal decent gas mileage vs the V-8s they replace. V-6 in the Chevy's case. This is why Toyota went this way.

I guess folks are easily conditioned via marketing. For so many years, hybrid meant gas sipping prius. Hybrid means gas/electric or Diesel/electric (trains) systems. It is going to take awhile to de-program them to understand Toyota is using the electric for better towing with torque coming in the low RPMs or at take off not to get 30mpg in a large truck. You know like folks thinking they can race their turbo vehicles and get the sticker rated mpg.
