We have had Priuses for daily commuters and long trips for 14 years. I am a fan - our ‘21 prime is a fast fun car.

But I just picked up a 22 Tundra SR5 2wd with the regular V6TT and am plenty happy with it.

For me it was more of the truck configuration as I would have opted for the hybrid except it was mandatory I have the 6.5' minimum bed, but I didn't want the longer overall length of the crew max with the 6.5' bed. I don't need the extra cab space of the crew max as well. So the hybrid is not available in the double cab configuration. That being said, the power of the non hybrid limited is more than adequate for the towing I do.

All I know is that I test drove a non hybrid. Stopped on highway and braked it and nailed it and it laid down then took off. Drove hybrid model same road same thing. Braked it and nailed it and it started pulling never did lay down. That was enough to convince me to get a hybrid. Just wish they would have put a little more battery in it. So, it would do a little better around town and out on lower speed limit roads. I'm happy with hybrid.

Can you please explain the "lay down" portion of the test?

    Lots of stuff!
My guess is that means it went to sleep! Sort of like a hesitation.

    Got it, thank you.

So, if I understand correctly now - he stopped on a highway, held brake pedal and gas pedal at the same time, the truck wouldn't drive at first but then it would start driving?

And the hybrid truck drove right away while he was pressing both gas and break pedals?

Probably just a standing start. No need to press the brake while trying to accelerate. All sorts of software would prevent the hybrid from moving while the brake is pressed. The use of the highway would give a longer run at a higher speed. A drag strip could do the same thing I think :)

    Non hybrid

    Hold brake push accelerator.
    Let off brake.
    Truck stalls then takes off.

    Hybrid

    Hold brake push accelerator.
    Let off brake.
    Truck then takes off.

Does non hybrid do this because the engine auto off feature kicks in?

I don't quite understand the point of such test and what does it show?

I'm too broke after buying this rig to afford mods.
Hybrid here. Pulling my travel trailer 5500lbs+ (probably more, haven't weighed) up Halloran Summit - that's the I15 to Las Vegas from SoCal.

Turbo pegged, hybrid meter pegged. I was passing slower cars and big rigs in the truck lane going up hill. Hybrid boost meter went until battery was exhausted - you can see the little battery icon as it rises/falls depending upon assist/regen cycles.

I will say the Hybrid assist taps out at higher speeds, probably because not necessary at that point, but if you need more grunt the meter snaps to assist mode again. The pull up Halloran Summit was effortless in both directions.

    Hope this helps!

Kinda basic physics, i mean an electric motor (in the hybrid) will develop torque stopped while any internal combustion engine needs to be in motion or revved to a certain degree to produce torque.
