Yes, its considered lesser quality. The 1794 and Platinum trims have "Lexus grade leather"

Well guys, I had the Toyota corp. replace the seat cover and the bottom cushion. First I would like to say they tried to have one of there techs do the job. When I went to pickup the truck it was worse, what a Joke. So they finally sent it out to a leather company to have it done. Note I owned the 2007 tundra limited and that was a great truck with no problems other then the frame that started to have issues so I treaded it in for this 2018 1794, I tell you it A POS. for what we pay for these truck. Toyota is going down the S**T. I am a auto tech and hold my work very high with the experience that I have in Toyota, Honda, Infinity, BMW,and Audi. With that being said Guys I know my cars and workmanship that I can do. I never told Toyota Corp that I am a tech and they tried to BS me on what is covered and they can do. I feel sorry for the people that does not understand these Toyota trucks. I made a mistake on buying this truck because I thought Toyota was still THE SAME QUALITY AS IT USE TO BE. Man was I wrong! there are lots of stuff that is wrong with these trucks. ABS light coming on, Crash sensor coming on, the right top of the dash has a bump on the finish, the carpet is garbage for what you pay for these trucks. So I will say for Toyota YOUR ENGINE TRANSMISSION and power train is great but the rest of the truck is A big POS. hopefully this truck will last before I trade it in. Guys if there is anyone that is looking to buy a TUNDRA 1794,limited or platinum do your home work IT'S not worth the price. Good luck!

OP glad you got it fixed! It is disappointing that they tried to give you the run-around. The overall cost-down to sacrifice quality is industry wide. The more complex electronics they add, the more issues/recalls will arise.

I will have to respectfully disagree with your whole statement. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the Tundra, save for the JBL stereo system, which has been upgraded. It sucks that you are having issues with your Tundra, but you cannot condemn a whole company based on your experiences alone. I hope that you get everything worked out and start to enjoy your Tundra.

Hi Heff same here with respect. But if you go to the dealer and compare the interior leather on your limited and the one on the 1794 you will see the difference. As for me putting the whole company down it’s not that. When you look at when the first Tundra hit the market it was amazing in and out, the quality of materials used in the inside was great. Now it seems that they got hit so hard on there pockets with all the frames problems, that they started to cut corners on quality. The only way you can see or experience the quality I am talking about you need to see a 2007 2008 tundra limited and walk through the whole truck and see it for yourself. Plus if you do a Search on the web on 1794 interior and problems you will also see what I am talking about.

OP, I'm glad that you got your issue resolved. As for your statement that Tundras are not worth the price, just go check a Chevy or F150 with the higher trim package that has an MSRP of $60K or more and tell me that your Tundra isn't a great value (I paid just over $46K for my 2018 Platinum). If I totaled my Platinum today, I'd have a new one in my driveway tomorrow.

Thanks for the pictures but the leather in the 1794 is different. Does the back of your passenger seat look like this zoom in and see the wrinkles on the sides. upload_2019-5-23_16-24-32.jpg

I'm on a trip right now and can't look at my 1794 seats, but I have 88k miles and no complaints. I think of it like a saddle, leather shoes, or a baseball glove. Leather has to be broken in. It'll wear unevenly. It'll stretch and conform to you and your pressure points. You definitely need sliders or a step for getting in and out or you'll wear out the side of the drivers seat. Otherwise, I'd call it character. I love my seats, and in Texas, the cooled seats are a godsend.

I wouldn't let that bother me. It's a mass produced item, not a Bentley or Ferrari. Just be happy with the truck and enjoy it.

I am NOT saying that the Limited has better leather than the 1794 or Platinum. However, I love the seats in my Limited: the synthetic leather [or whatever it is] cleans up well, wears well, and for my two cents, the seat feels firmer to me, comfortable, but firm.

My top 3 likes about the Limited: how it handles, the way it looks, and my seats.

My truck has around 38k on it, 3k with me and I definitely have a lower cushion issue like OP. Never bothered me until I read this post. What does bother me is a very very light "pop" I get when accelerating from a stop light in my mid to lower back. It's the same feeling you get if youve ever driven in a truck with manual adjust front seats that have a little play in them.. just that I only feel it in my mid lower back. I don't know if the lumbar wasnt positioned properly when they put the leather on the seat frame. Does anyone know how the lumbar system works? It feels like its an bag of air that slightly loses pressure when I accelerate. It used to drive me nuts but I think Ive gotten past that stage and just accepted it. And I apologize in advance to anyone that starts to notice this now that its been mentioned.

Thanks for the picture and the advice. But that’s what I am talking about Toyota cutting corners. That is not available on the 1794 tundra

True, but it is one of the cheap and easy DYI installs.

P.S. I get that the fact they didn't include it is annoying, as why would they do that?!

    I still love my Limited!:D:bananadance::curls::mudding:

I would bet they removed for safety reasons. Go watch the crash tests on the tundra and see what happens with that grab handle on the passenger side. Then watch the small overlap test on the newer model without the grab handle.

It's not available on any newer 14+ Tundra but can be added for around $150.

I have a 2010 Ltd with leather seats. The leather has held up well. I’m now looking to replace with a 2020 1794. Went to a dealership a couple weeks ago and was actually pretty disappointed with the interior. The “leather” seats appeared to be mostly pleather. Which seems like a downgrade to me. The rep at the dealership said it was because they had issues with real leather and the pleather was more durable. I’m struggling with this response. The suede on the sides of the seats were definitely microfiber and not real suede. In fact I had a hard time finding any part of the seat that was real leather? Is it possible that there is no leather at all? It seems pretty pitiful that you have to be careful how you get in/out of a $50k vehicle so as to not damage the seats. This has me reconsidering what vehicle I’m looking to replace the 2010 with which is sad.

My GMC did this exact thing and by 30k mikes the leather was peeling off the seat and was gone from the steering wheel.

it’s leather on the seating surfaces with the exception of the stylistic bits and fake suede.

Only the seating surfaces of leather seats are actually leather, all the rest is plastic in any car.

In all actuality automotive grade leather is all coated with plastic to protect the leather from the harsh environmental usage of a car so whatever you do you’re sitting on plastic.

If you buy a double cab gmc or Chevy only the seating surfaces on the front seats are leather and the back is Pleather.

I considered leather but knew it would probably not "wear" well and I would be less than happy...got the cloth seats that clean up well and if i decide on leather later I can get the Katskins..
