Leveled before and after pic

Looks good man. What kit did you go with?

 

Copy! I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but I am leaning towards Bilsteins in the front at 1.9” and 5100s in the rear. Thoughts?

That sounds great, you will have a little stock rake in the rear so you will sit a bit up in the rear, not like my stance and thats good for towing or putting weight in rear! Many hear have that set up 1.9" up front and are happy with it!

I went with Procomp 2.5 up front really pleased with the results.

 

I lowered the rear to match the un-altered front.

This is a great thread. Total dilemma. I have a Readylift 2.4 front leveling kit and also just bought a Pro Comp 3/1 kit. I just want it level as I can't stand the raked looked. Mostly grocery getter, but some off road in the mountains and biking trails, the lake, etc.... I am gonna keep the stock wheels and tires for a while. Thinking 33's or 34's when i do get new tires.

Suggestions and input is appreciated. Thanks.

 

Any issues with rubbing with this set up? Thinking about going this route myself. Any info is appreciated.

 

Did you have to replace the upper control arms? I want to put the Bilstein 6112’s in the front and the 5160’s in the rear but I’m concerned about handling. Does your truck handle good with the leveling kit on it?

So honest question. If Toyota thought the best setup for the truck was for it to be leveled wouldn’t it be built that way? I know the leveled look might be more appealing but it’s not how the truck was designed. What’s the draw other than looks? To me it seems like money to modify a truck for one pro which is better looks but a lot of cons.

Forgive my ignorance I’m a new tundra owner. I upgraded from a 3rd gen 4Runner. I have a 15 limited 4x2 in blue ribbon metallic. If I didn’t have a 5000lb boat I’d probably have a Camry

 

To answer your question above the reasons are, higher center of gravity which makes them easier to roll over so "liability", worse fuel economy on a vehicle with already poor numbers and .......

Because I want to, and I guess that’s reason enough! I guess it’s the same reason why you see families buying four-door Jeep Wrangler‘s that are jacked up, but who am I to judge? I do me.

Not hate. Just stating a fact. Car/truck design is about making concessions. Cafe requirements are a real issue the manufacturers face. Roll over liability is a fact. Go on a Copart or IAA auction site and look up SUV's and Trucks especially in the winter months. Lots of roll overs. Stability control nannies have saved many vehicles and lives. Once "you" change the ride height then don't go running to the manufacturer that your truck rolled over and killed someone in your vehicle or another. Ever wonder why the first question out of an insurance company's mouth when you ask for a quote is "is the vehicle stock?" Well if you answer yes and in the course of a wreck it comes out that it was modded then be prepared for a fight. Possibly a denial for your claim. Everyone looking to pass the buck or hot potato in America.

 

Eh...a good lawyer could and will shred this to pieces. Toyota dealers here mod vehicles all the time, from brand new, then sell them. The key is that their mods are maybe a leveling kit, no more than 3”, bigger tires and different wheels.

A lawyer would show that Toyota allows it therefore a citizen who chooses not to pay what the dealer charges and yet uses the same parts they do, and saves money by having a 4 wheel shop (especially the same one the dealer uses) mount everything up.

You put an 8” lift on your truck, with 48” tires and then wonder why your truck rolled, you’ll probably lose that argument. I think the key here is keeping mods to what you have seen dealers do, if you want a leg to stand on God forbid something bad happen.

 

Sorry but there wouldn't be an after market industry as large as it is if it was this big of an issue. If you don't like seeing modded tundras you are on the wrong website

Stock...for reference


New wheels and tires, basically biggest tires you can go without major rubbing issues. Rubbed some


5100's on top setting. SLIGHTLY higher in the front, seems to have settled after a few months. Mud flaps removed, on rubs a little at near full lock in reverse.

 

My question was not meant to start a pissing match. I understand a lift all around is better for off-roading but a leveling kit just makes the front the same height as the stock rear, no? What’s the advantage of this? If you raise the front wouldn’t you want to raise the rear too to keep the rake only higher.
