Unless I missed that deal, it's been a 12.0 forge with a free 8.0 forge. The big deal with Forge batteries is the increased discharge capacity - meaning they will allow the tool to draw more current, similar to how the larger 21700 cell packs (6.0, 8.0 and 12.0 high outputs) bested the 5.0XC an 9.0 batteries powered by 18650 cells. I don't have enough charge cycles on them to really know how much better they are, but I can tell my high draw tools like the forge batteries better. I use them on my table saw and chop saws, and will run them on the chainsaw and a few other tools when needed.

The 21700 cell batteries were a great step up from the older packs; I use them all the time. But they had issues with all three packs balancing cells, so you would have a battery that would read Green on the charger, but only have 2 or 3 bars lit up. Then it would indicate 'malfunction' when you put it under heavy load because one set of cells was at a lower voltage than the other sets. It's not a difficult fix it you have an 18650 cell charger, but it feels a little janky the first time you try it. And you could potentially short the battery if you screw it up...

So my take on the Forge batteries is the they are great for high demand/current tools, but kinda unnecessary for regular tools and lights. The CP3.0s are a much better choice for hand tools like drills and impacts since they offer lighter weight and greater discharge capacity than the 5.0s. The 5.0s are great for lights and vacuums and such (except the big vacuums).

Edit: also, a little birdie told me that Milwaukee will most likely phase out the older cell tech and replace them with Forge packs. I tried pressing for details, but it sounded like the 21700 cells except for the 3.0CP. I suspect they might keep the older 18650 batteries as their "homeowner" line due to cheaper costs and proven reliability, but that's just my guess.

Forge is worth it - more power in smaller form

If you are after Ah/dollar this is about the best deal I’ve seen.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...Ah-48-11-1865-48-11-1865-48-11-1862/331594262

The 12.0 forge with free 8.0 forge is close. Before that, the two pack of 5.0’s with a free 5.0 for 199 was the best Ah/dollar deal.

I ordered a track saw a little while back because I knew I would need it at some point... Set it up today and made my first cut in a 6/4 rock maple butcher block.

    DANG.

This is NOT an overpriced circular saw in fancy wrapping. This REPLACES a circular saw and rip guide for anything but sheeting a house quick and dirty. I took three 1/2" passes plus a scoring pass; I had to check each pass to make sure it actually cut something because it was so smooth and effortless. Seriously, this is WAY better than my circular saw and rip guide. SUPER CLEAN cut.

Pics to come soon, but I'll use it to clean up these two beauties in a week or two.

I also have the track saw and can't agree more. It works like a charm and now I don't know what I ever did without one.

I'm thoroughly impressed with it so far. My table saw is a Professional SawStop and I'm still impressed with the little track saw. I honestly thought they were gimmicky or for folks without access to a good table saw who were willing to spend more money on a fancy skillsaw. Nah. This thing works.

It’s 43% discount from retail. They are a big heavy battery, but compared to the HD12.0 they are smaller/lighter with better run time.
I recently picked up the BOGO Forge 12.0 that came with a free 8.0 but haven’t gotten to run either through full testing. Given the size, I’d almost rather have 8.0’s but it does depend on your use case. Right now, running my brush hog or top handle chainsaw using Forge 6.0’s, I’m about ready for a short break about the time the battery is ready to be swapped anyway. The 12.0 might do good for balancing the brush hog power head though…

I do have two of the Forge 6.0 and they are fucking awesome. About the size of the older 5.0 and they run much longer than the previous 6.0’s. Also know that charging Forge batteries takes longer unless you have the massive (and $$$) forge supercharger.

    Love my track saw.
Won’t let it near a rough framing project, but for precision stuff and breaking down sheet goods to manageable sizes it’s awesome

Good info on the Forges, thanks.:hattip: Think I’ll pass for now. Was debating about picking a few up for the vacuum. That thing will blow through a couple 5.0s in one interior detailing session.

as for your supercharger.. seems like a decent deal at 225 + you’ll get another 8.0. A lot cheaper than a supercharger under the hood, but I’m sure you’ve got that in the works, too :DIMG_0253.png

Seems the south has entered a new ice age, lows in the high 20's last couple of nights. Thought I get prepared for the apocalypse and order this, guess I'll have the rush out for milk and bread next.
Note I paid for this but have unlimited access to batteries at work so it made since for me to save the $30 and not get the battery even though it's good price to get it included.

Bought one at work a couple months back for a few hundred casters that needed greasing. No complaints but I don't think it's for hard industral use.

Well I succumbed to the lure of the Milwaukee rabbit hole...I couldn't rationalize or justify a full tool swap-out, so I acquired a few pieces of the pack-out system and ordered a 5 piece 12v tool set and a 3" cut-off tool while the BF sale prices were still good. Since the thread is useless without pics, or so I've heard, they will be forthcoming once all the pieces are delivered on Friday while I'm on shift. Seems there was a run on some of these tools for some reason :notsure:

I figured that instead of just getting a long reach ratchet I’d get this one and kill two birds.
