You had to be sloshing around pretty damn good to get water in there. Sorry to hear about this.

Air intake through the cowl along with a driving slower through water might serve you well. Just don't do the ribbed for ear pleasure tubing or it will be whistle city when you stomp the skinny pedal.

Little late for these but these fit my truck well. Mine was missing half the passenger side (check my build thread) and stories like this make me happy I replaced them.

These trucks are not power houses, nor were they designed to be. It’s no surprise, that these lower power engines in the Japanese/Korean vehicles (Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, etc) last forever. Even with the factory supercharger, a stock LS 5.3L is going to have more power. LS swaps are getting more and more popular and a lot of shops are doing them for pretty reasonable prices. Some shops around me do them for $3500 (labor only) and you provide the motor/donor vehicle. Otherwise, @empty_lord has given you sound advice on getting a ‘few’ extra ponies but don’t expect it a race car after.

Depending on your location, www.car-part.com is a good resource. It’s an online junk yard that you can search by zip code. Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

Okay so i got the time and pulled the blown motor the other day and bought an 03 motor with 90k miles no problems from a wrecked one. Gonna put it in this weekend. Was wondering if anyone knows of a multiple spark discharge kit, upgraded throttle body or intake manifold, or anything like that to increase performance for my rebuild. Not looking to get too carried away but just want a little more power while I’m doing the kinda rebuild. Got the ol 79 blazer out and have been taking it to work lately:D

you do realize you're driving a basic truck and not gonna get a 'performance vehicle' outta it right?

Ive read theres some port matching that can be done, and something about a casting ridge on the inside radii of the upper intake manifold.

Theres not much for power from the 4.7s everything is a trade off with reliability.

put a big fuel pump, big injectors, and tune it to run on ethenol?

I do realize that. A lot of “regular vehicles” have camming tuning turbocharging and such one can do to them. Was merely searching for possibilities. If you have nothing helpful to say in response to the question I don’t need a smart ass answer. Every badass truck out there started as another “regular” truck. Would never had gotten to the point of being as cool as they are if not for curious minds instead of people that say “oh it’s just regular so I can never make it cool.”

that’s definitely a possibility. Sounds like a little farther than I want to go though. Thanks for the response.

the UZ can make big power. but it costs BIG money. XAT makes cams, and internal engine goodies than can make the engine a power house. but it wouldnt take long to end up with a 10k engine.

Congrats on the low milage find.
Might be a good time to throw JBA shorties on there while it's on the bench.
@blurry1 (what's his name?) just did that with his overhaul right?

Yeah that’s kinda what I’ve come up with unfortunately. I know a guy with a 1st gen 4.7 and he put the. Xat cams in his. Said it was a huge waste of money.

    They’re meant for boost.
You want to make more power? Headers, VVTI manifold and throttle with fuel rails. @dirtydeeds has documented it. That’s probably going to be a noticeable jump. If anything with a rebuild you could raise compression but you’ll need to run higher octane
