I don't think the 4K includes the labor to install the lift much less the wheels and tires...lol

I’m liking the SR5 4x4Sport with the color matching body parts vs the chrome on the Limited. I want to get in at the $50k entry level rather than spend $60k on the Limited with TRD Off Road and save money for aftermarket wheels and lift. Besides the Bilstein shocks, locker and crawl control are there any other differences between the Sport vs Off Road? I prefer to get Fox suspension later on with a lift kit and aftermarket rear locker. Does anyone know how much the locker is installed? I don’t care for crawl control even though I know it works well. I prefer old school. I’m just trying to think if there are any other differences. I wish there was a better way to compare these packages online.

If you are going to change out all the suspension components to get the grill color matched on the sport, and don't want the off road goodies, you might think about getting a base SR5 and painting the grill, installing lift etc.

    The stock sport is lowered.

Agreed, I thought that was weird as well unless the pro with better tires had a better jump off the line.

Are you actually going to take a brand new 50-60K truck off roading to the point that you’ll need a rear locker, lift and craw control? I know too many people that over build their trucks and it’s just for looks or to say they have it.

The only thing about getting after market stuff done on a brand new truck is it doesn’t make a 50K worth 55-60K after it’s done. So you’re throwing money out the window. Ordering it the way you want from factory makes it worth more when you resale. So at least you are able to recapture money at the sale.

It wasn't garbage, the truck performed very well, they just knocked it for silly things for a tow contest. They even mentioned in this video how well it towed and said it felt like they weren't even towing. Saying that with an 8000 lbs load going up that grade is saying something.

People are upset the Ram beat the tundra on time and mpg, he might be referring to that aspect. Tow+ might help the tundra in time but the mpg will probably dip as it seems tow+ just hangs the gears longer and higher rpm. The throttle feel I don't put much into as everytruck is different. But the tundra but breathing heavy it was doing what it should, forced induction at altitude should perform better then n/a.

100% agree, it doesn't make sense. I'm also baffled as why they didn't do anything new innovative with the bed, they could have easily given storage compartments there as well.

Oem tonneau, side steps, spray in liner. Trd skidplate.
Negative, the Pro has Trd dual exhaust and Trd cai. So at upper rpms it makes more power than a standard tundra.

Nobody was upset the Ram "beat" the Tundra. People were upset that the Tundra "lost" because of no tow hooks and a vague personal opinion on lesser interior quality.

They have done those personal opinion scoring on every truck they have ever tested though. Just because it didn't favor the tundra isn't a reason to discredit the test. I mean they both lost points for value, price really didn't make a difference how they ran up the Ike either.

I do think they should include more things that they never talk about though for towing like trans temps, how the IBC performs, how good the mirrors are and the features they have etc. But it's there test and they run them how they want.

I agree, in my last post I included areas they could address while making the run up the Ike. The tow hooks probably shouldn't have been added to the subjective part, but interior quality I can't see being judged. But if the ram didn't have tow hooks it would have lost points as well so it's not like they are just picking on Toyota. Yota made an oversight on that design feature, and no think misjudged how people would perceive it.

The Ram owners are probably quite happy with it just the way it is.

Personally I think it doesn't matter. This particular Ike test isn't going to sway any of us in either direction. What it did was show that the Tundra is a great towing truck.

Time was due to traffic, they said they got behind some slower cars in the Tundra. It's not a race to see who gets up to the top fastest because they are only going the speed limit. All trucks are able to make it within the time unless there is too much traffic. I do think it is time to revise their methods or their measurements. The only thing that the tow haul+ would've helped in their test was the initial acceleration time which Tundra already beat Ram, but they wouldn't tell by how much.
Things I would like to see them add to their test
a 50-60mph time on the hill to simulate pulling out and passing slower traffic
    Transmission temps,
Go back to the calculated mpgs at the gas pump
on the downhill, I think they should be manually downshifting like most people would be doing
More discussion on their opinion on actual towing, are the mirrors big enough, how does the truck "feel" towing, how much throttle are they using, does the truck feel stressed, is it constantly gear hunting, or is it able to hold gears, etc.
Lack of tow hooks should not be a deciding factor on the tow test, that should be on the off-road test, seat comfort, I will give them on the tow test as I would say that is important.

Surprised no one has brought up the discussion on the trans cooler since it has been such a hot topic on here. Sounds like it is more than a puck, but not a stand alone radiator either. Thought he said it was integrated into the main radiator, did i hear that right?

It's not that most people need tow hooks, however, they have become a styling point for the design of trucks/SUVs. Why do you think so many other manufacturers paint them red?

With that being said, I need them and it is a huge miss for me personally. I hope that is corrected soon either through a dealer add-on or aftermarket, otherwise I will not be buying one.

I don't think that is a niche market at all. Look at how many people buy Raptor's and Rubicon's but they never leave the mall parking lot. It's all about perceived ruggedness. Yes, they were going for mpg, but how much did they really gain by not including tow hooks? It's less than half a percentage point. Again, they could have also made them optional and then it wouldn't factor in, but we have yet to see a solution on that end. So like I've seen other's say, in the end it was probably more about cost than it was mpg.

Hmmmm....Except the engineer said they specifically paid attention to towing ability in the design of the truck......

In all the videos showing the front end and that plastic mechanical air dam thing, I don't see much of a solution other than bumper replacements and feature loss for tow hooks. Even on the TFL video the guy was like, make a steel bumper. I haven't even seen an emergency front tow point on the truck, but I may have missed it. That air dam may save fuel, but it looks like an expensive repair to me.

I actually think the tow hook oversight was just an oversight, I would bet when that came to light they said...woops...or they would have mentioned the reason why in the introduction.....They may need to loosen the man buns up there in the yota engineering and design dept.

By your analysis it looks like with the exception of towing over 6000 lbs, the Tacoma is actually more truck for truck things than the Tundra, (I kinda agree at this point). The Tundra is just sorta a mini-van with a bed and expectations should go no higher.

In that case....they knocked it outta the park!!!!

I'm really curious, if you could replace that lower plastic piece on the bumper and have the tow hooks stick out of the bumper like most of the other manufacturers have. Maybe that area right above the fog lights.

I can't remember for sure, but I think they did ask about how often you used tow hooks on one of the surveys that was sent out. They probably honestly saw that very few people have actually ever used them and decided it wasn't necessary. Even on this forum where we use our trucks more than the average person, the percentage of people that actually used them was very low. It's one of those things that is nice to have, but in reality 95% of the people will never use them. I wish it had them, but it's also something that would get very little use.

They said they got stuck behind slow vehicles on the tundra test and that slowed them down. The tundra one that competition for anyone who actually watched it.

Maybe not most people but I for sure will be. You can see my build thread I used and abused my platinum and the locker/crawl control would have been nice to have. Unfortunately it was recently totaled but I am being payed extra for all my mods. I will be getting a TRD pro or a loaded limited If the pro is north of 70k.
