Ok, not gonna lie. Better than I thought it would sound. Obviously not gonna sound like a V8. Sounds pretty good though. Great job and thank you for supporting the Tundra platform through the years!

I second this. IMO - I think it's next to impossible to make a v6 sound good - unless it's really quiet. Inline is a different animal. But that sounds pretty decent - considering what it is. I heard another manufacturer's prototype on the 3rd generation and it sounded like machine gun fire - it was awful.

No problem. Piece of cake. It actually sounds just as good in person too. Was very surprised. There’s tons of room for power in this truck too!!

I agree that it's hard to make a V6 sound good, and this does sound good. I heard the other manufacturers exhaust and, while I thought it was silly how they rev'ed the truck and let it bounce off the rev limiter (which is what that machine gun fire was), beyond that it sounded good for what it was (deep idle, aggressive acceleration tone). Both of these sound similar with this one being the quieter of the two, and once my truck arrives, I will absolutely be in the market for a new exhaust!

Thanks to DirtyDeeds for the video and great job. Any pics of the finished prototype that you can/are wiling to show? Thanks!

@dirtydeeds Any particular reason you went with such a long muffler? Also, similar to your offerings on previous generation systems, do you plan to offer various muffler lengths that differ from your test mule here?

Thanks for the video. That sounds much better than I expected. Did y’all happen to do a before and after dyno to get true power numbers. Or even data logging?

Not yet. We haven’t decided exactly how we are going to send it out. Simple is better and that will be the end product.

Not yet. Will do when I get my pro. The stock muffler is 36ish inches. And it’s a restriction style muffler. There is absolutely power to be gained by replacing it with a flow thru design.

They probably kept a longer muffler for the back pressure. The wrong muffler most of the time will take power away. You get all the noise but technically loose power. That was on v8 platforms. Idk about twin turbo v6s

The large size is die to the raspy sound this engine makes. We have zero raspiness. No lawnmower sounds.

we will he offering various sound levels. And even a cat less race system.

Ford GT sounds pretty damn good. But not very truck like.

Gotta go aftermarket DP's and straight pipe so you can get the diesel whistle

As a former turbo car guy.......

Then only real exhaust mod that gives power benefits on a turbo/forced induction engine is the largest diameter pipe you can fit, cut outs, or no exhaust after the manifold/headers/downpipe.
Anything else is basically for laws/looks/sound.

Exhaust with bends turns etc just restrict power and cause backpressure = bad for forced induction.

Forced induction is about how much air you can cram in, and how fast you can get it out.

But good luck to you all, and good vendor regardless!

I’ll give it to you about the GT sounding good - although the original GT40 sounds way better ;) - but we’re talking about a specially built race engine not a mass produced engine. I should’ve been more specific I guess....

To add to that, most stock turbos have silencers built in. They muffle the motor on their own.

Best sounding V6’s are all naturally aspirated. The Ford GT is OK, but the Jaguar F-Type sounds great in V6 trim. The new Camaros aren’t shabby either.

That’s odd. Every turbo vehicle that I’ve worked on has actually ran better with an actual exhaust system. I’ve always gone by the theory that it’s best to make the pipe bigger and shorter too, but all it did was lose low end torque, with zero gains.

I’ve always built street vehicles and not all our race vehicles on the edge too.

Coming soon. Gonna get a few things in the shop caught up then work on production engineering. In the mean tone we are all very very excited for this new truck. We were scared at first with it being a v6. But the sound turned our better than expected and on the very first prototype to boot!!

For a driver this is correct. For a car that is built to run full throttle, no exhaust will free up the peak horsepower but will drive pretty poorly when you aren't at wide open throttle. For normal driving (not always on boost) you'll lose torque with a bigger diameter.
