The Ford KR EB I drove had the V8 soundtrack piped in the cab. Actually thought I was driving a Coyote at first. So much low end grunt had me wondering though. Drove passed some construction barriers and heard the breathy, gaspy sound coming from the exhaust and realized it had the blown 6’er. Then I was mad that I had been duped. It sounded so good inside though. After awhile I didn’t even notice the noise inside. Just sounded like a truck.

I'm assuming there's no way to turn off the fake engine noise?

My 4.0 Tundra sounds pretty good. My tip is Loud does not equal good. This is very relevant in any V6 as well as the 5.0 Coyote. Rasp will kill tone generally a really loud exhaust has a good amount of rasp. If you want to hear my truck I put the video on the V6 thread I posted yesterday. It’s not perfect but it’s decent personally I love it

You make exhausts, so I'm sure you're up to snuff on what Ford did with the new Raptor. That actually sounds really good. I'd rather have that than fake engine noise. But I'm preaching to the choir I think.

Can you confirm what the pipe diameters were for the stock exhaust before/after muffler?

heres the OD from my SR5.

pipe going into the muffler is 3.15” OD

pipe coming out of the muffler (before flange) is 2.57 OD

pipe after flange (tailpipe) is 2.78” OD

    1F07B9AD-7A41-4F85-B7FD-E693C9A46913.jpg

I think a full 3” with a magnaflow style muffler about the same length as stock would sound nice. Stock muffler is 33” long.

You don’t necessarily have to go louder to add more flow. Not everyone wants a Corsa Extreme or has to have that. I would change out my stock muffler for an equivalent aftermarket, like a Flowmaster 70 series or another brands equivalent. That way the back pressure isn’t effected and so on. Just my opinion

It’s always been my experience with past turbo vehicles you want as little back pressure as possible so you aren’t choking off the exhaust pressure. Turbos are different animals than NA motors. The raptors have a more performance exhaust and they sound pretty good, in my opinion anyway. I think a larger magnaflow and possibly a small resonator in the tail pipe would reduce the back pressure, help power, and keep it more quiet (no ricey rasp).

While I can't add any more inputs today, I have a Carven TR muffler, 3' of 3" stainless, and some hangers awaiting install at my brothers' shop. Going to see if I can get a couple of small bends put in the 3" tubing to make up for the offset of the muffler and keep the flow nice from a local shop and then have my brother's co-worker install it (ex-welder). Once I do, I'm going to see how it sounds with the rear pipe unbolted as well as with it bolted up with the resonator and decide from there what to keep. I'll ensure I get videos too.

Ish. I'm getting the 3" pipe bent tomorrow and just had to wait for my brother to have a free Saturday after putting my lift in. This Saturday is the one! Like I said, I'll grab some videos with the two options I mentioned before.

Don't know much about exhausts, but gonna drop this here if anyone's curious.
edit: don't really care about loudness, just want something that sounds better than stock :)

It would be sweet to see some dyno numbers for stock vs. aftermarket exhausts coming out. I like the sound but would need to see some power gain to justify the cost. I do miss the sound of my 5.7 but like the power of the new motor. I just have to jump in the wife's Sequoia to get my V8 sound fix every once in a while.

Yeah, just know that's not for a complete exhaust. You have to essentially "cut" out the existing muffler on one side (side with the blue line) and slip on a new muffler. That 550 is just this section below and the fittings. He is releasing a full exhaust you don't have to cut at some point. Pic below probably doesn't represent this but it shows the general idea,

idk man,...$550 for a muffler is kinda steep. I appreciate the work and all but I had a hard time justifying the purchase when I was considering it.

I wonder if they will offer more than one option like they did with the 5.7?

For $550 .. I'd expect a nice band clamp, hangers with the larger nipples on them to go through the hangers .. just would expect some better fit/finish/detail I guess.
