Many here never heard of Blackstone or oil analysis before this engine debacle. I’m sure their business has boomed on the auto side. (aircraft is their #1 and gets first priority)

First report for me, 23 Hybrid with 20k miles. I have the Toyota K&N style air filters and aftermarket muffler. Everything else looks good?

I know I'm not out of the woods yet but this makes me much more at ease. Btw, turn around was 4 weeks.

To be fair - Speed didn’t say there wasn’t silver in the bearings - just that they didn’t test for it because the use of silver in that application wouldn’t be compatible with the oil being used.

I am aware of silver electroplated bearings for use in aftermarket racing applications from King Bearing. They are marketed as extreme high-load racing bearings, and it's interesting to note that they are rated fairly poorly for seizure-resistance for what its worth. That being said, I have no idea if any OEM or Toyota has adopted or is using similar technology. But given the design parameters that we know about this engine that it is plausible. https://www.kingbearings.com/material-type/copper-based/

I just received my sample back from Blackstone. At 43K it looks really good. next oil change which will be in the next couple of weeks I will check a comparison.
For the guys that have had high readings after let’s say 20K , and had oil samples, and experienced a failure afterwards. Just wondering what the tell tale signs are . It has to be in the sample , would you not agree?

First Blackstone report for me and the truck. 2nd oil change.
I did break-in oil change at roughly 1K, this one was a bit over 5K miles.
    All looks/sounds good.

Thx for sharing. Out of curiosity, how long (time) did you drive your truck just before you drained this oil?

IIRC this was a Saturday morning, I had made a coffee and errand run, maybe 7 miles total. Engine was fully up to temp.
Came home, got ramps and tools out. Oil was still warm/hot-ish when it went into the sample jar from a mid-stream collection.

Forgive me if I missed it, but has there been a single Blackstone report that even hinted at an imminent bearing failure?

I know a few reports have had higher than normal silver content, and Blackstone suggested that *might* be from bearings. But to my knowledge no one has confirmed that the Tundra bearings actually have a silver electroplated surface, like some aftermarket bearings have.

I'll ask again, has there been a single Blackstone report that said something to the effect of:

"We have serious concerns about the health of your engine. The wear metal content in your oil is extremely high, and it suggests a major problem and possible failure is imminent."

Also, it seems like it would be fairly simple to confirm if the Tundra bearings have silver in them with the proper testing equipment. If so, I'm surprised no one has done this. But I'm no expert in this area.

    Anyone?

Edit: Forgive me if my questions fall outside the intended purpose of this thread.

I acknowledged some reports have higher than normal silver content. But even that report doesn't exactly warn of imminent failure.

But thanks for trying to be helpful at least, unlike your first response to me.

That won’t necessarily be in a report. You have to analyze the data and make an educated guess on if it’s healthy or not healthy enough for you to be worried

Hmmm...I thought that was the purpose of sending your oil to Blackstone...so they can "analyze the data and make an educated guess" on the health of your engine.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from these oil analysis reports, but I haven't seen one that would convince me to park my truck until it gets a new engine. Most of their comments are rather benign and non-conclusive to me.

They will tell you in black and white terms if there is a problem with the analysis. I've had a bad one and there is no doubt.

If there is a glaring problem, yes of course. It’s not all black and white, that is what people are getting hung up on.

Keeping the op’s wishes of keeping this analysis only, I’m out

Thanks for coming back with this filter test. As expected some trapped metal counts went up slightly.
