Thats the funny thing... Same with the Ram crowd which I been a part of. Their engines keep ticking and breaking but regardless they go replace it with another Ram.

My guess is that people follow their emotions and what's comfortable for them versus thinking critically and logically

This must be one of the reasons the words THINK and Believe have been replaced by "FEEL!":D

You were able to control when the turbos kick in or not?

Based on his youtube videos, it sounds like the OP is going to buy a Chevy Duramax. I looked at those as I think they’re cool.

I passed on the diesel due to the high fuel cost, the need for DEF, the eventual fouling of the injectors, and cramped setup of the inline 6 engine.

In the end, I accepted the exterior and interior quality issues of the Tundra because I think the transmission mates well with the engine (I can only speak of the non-hybrid).

I think it’s great that people that are not satisfied complain :) It’s how things get better.

Its only the first year of production..

They have another decade to get it right before replacing it with an electric Prius pick up.

    Lets not rush them....

So the poster was trying to keep the TTV6 in a spot with no turbo boost to mimic a NA V6, then compare that to the NA V8.

ok fair enough, but I guess that does not warrant the statement that they have fixed all or most of the issues, there are still people here with all of those.

good to hear about the actual service bulletin about the throttle lag though.

When you think of a v8, you think big and beefy. When you think of v6, you think tuner, high rev. I say without stats, you’re right, who knows. But if put side by side which engine would you choose to be a work horse. And when I think of anything 6 for work, I think Cummins. Just like what’s the most go to trans for high HP for regular racing folks. 3or4 speeds. Simple, reliable and less moving parts. Compared to a 10speed that has to cram all those gears in a case about the size of a 6 speed.

would be really interesting if the part numbers are now different, that would tell us.

although would they change suppliers and/or design and leave the same part number?

    What we know.
These companies (incl. Toyota) are about saving money, making money for share holders.
    This was the case for your 2016 Tundra too however;
The 5.7 was designed for it and your frame is unique, built with flex for offroading and carrying a heavy load in the bed.

The new Tundra engine, frame, infotainment, etc.... are shared by many vehicles to save money and make more money.

Not saying this a bad thing if done right. We just don't know yet.
    I have faith in Toyota.
    I just wish I could buy a F150 "body/utilities" with Toyota mechanicals.

    And a question. off topic.
My sons Silverado work truck a 2020 ? 5.3 is ticking can now be heard from 15 feet away.
How much time does he have with it? Just asking.

Who knows. Could be a few months, could be tomorrow. Either way it’s a 2020, why are you worried? Warranty?

I am the worrier not him. He could care less its a company truck.
Just not used to hearing engines make that kind of noise.
Plus the GM engines seem to take alot of abuse here. 8^0
I've driven it. Other than rattling around over train tracks like something is loose - it does ride smooth.

For those that have mentioned first model year problems - I had both a 2000 and 2007 Tundra with zero issues. Things have gone downhill at Toyota I think.

My wife’s 2019 Rav4 (first year of the 5th gen) has also been flawless so far up to 35k miles. It was such a deal compared to others we saw we decided to go with it despite it being a first model year, and no regrets currently. This was a pre-Covid build though, if we are still using that excuse.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.

My 2020 trd pro tacoma has been pretty bullet proof also. Gonna almost be sad to let it go when it comes time to trade her in.

I had one for 10 months before getting rid of it. Extremely disappointed. QC is horrid. It was my 10th Toyota and was in the shop more in the first 3 months than all my other Toyotas combined.

My 07 was the most problematic out of every tundra I’ve owned. Battery over tightened and sprayed acid all over engine bay, rear main seal leak (happened on my 14 as well), parking sensors x2 failed right at 35k miles, chrome flaked off grill and rear bumper, etc

ouch , Toyota better get it in gear otherwise it could be labeled a longer term flop which won’t help future sales

I don’t care about the subjective stuff in that article, the tundra has always ranked lower for that stuff in these type of reviews.

but damn, these qc problems just won’t go away , the damn trans overheating? Plus the other stuff

Someone needs to send a wake up call to whomever is in charge of that , like now

Hi, could you please provide additional info about this one? I have the same issue with delayed throttle. Is there a service tsb number or something I can research? Thx!

Looks like Motor Trend got some really shoddy Tundras to test...

We've all heard about some issues with the trim and noises but nothing as bad as what Motor Trend describes.

And I don't believe that anyone on this whole forum complained about their transmission overheating... Even the TFL Andre towed up the Ike Gauntlet several times with 2 different Tundras without any transmission overheating. So this so called transmission overheating issue isn't really what the rest of 99.9% of is experienced.
