Body shop safe means no silicone. Silicone causes fisheyes in paint jobs.

Looks like some good advice has already been given. I’ll contribute by tagging @Omohundro . He’s in the paint and body business, so will have much better insight than I would.

1 Remove damaged part, ie clear pealing. Plas

2 Feather out the pealing clear (sand the clear until you do not feel the edge anymore)

3 Find a 2k spray bomb primer, prime and block at least 2 times. Try 600g and water This will fix your substrate for your paint.

4 get your color and spray light coats until coverage is achieved. If you are not happy with the results wet sand with 800-1000g and apply a few more coats.

5 clear in light coats also, this will keep you from getting any runs and cut down on trash. I recommend 2-3 coats let it cure good water sand 1000g and clear again. Sounds like a lot but this is the best way with the spry bomb clears.

I do not have a lot of experience with spray bomb paint jobs, but I do know it can be done and look pretty darn good.
Also get some tack clothes from the parts store, you don’t want the one that is super sticky. If you have a paint supply store I would visit it, the one I buy all of my stuff from is able to mix the correct color variant for your truck in a spray can.
Keep in mind plastic adhesion is not as important because your part is already painted. Adhesion is already done unless you just cut all of base paint off.
Focus on the black part when feathering the clear, stay off the red. 074B3550-C385-41AD-8328-20A6778C5EEA.jpg
Just let me know, I will help any way I can. I’m all for someone learning how to do this.

    Jody,
Thanks for the detailed response. For the most part this is kinda how I thought it would go.... in my head except for the 2nd go round with the clear. But I will follow this to the T. I have seen rattle can projects turn out well before on vehicles which is why im going to attempt this. I know it wont remotely come close to show car but I figured I could get it close to factory and make it look like it belongs. Thanks again.

If you get the rattle can from a paint supply house that's a different ball game altogether and highly recommended over anything you'll find in the parts store. Hell even the toyota touch up pen is better than the parts store spray bomb as it won't scratch off with a finger nail.

At one point I knew a guy that owned a body shop and he was able to mix me some paint and put it in a spray can.
