Ah, I thought you were saying you could only put 1000 lbs in a half ton truck. Apologies for my misunderstanding.

I'll let you in on another sham but don't tell anyone.....the mpg they post isn't realistic either.

    Shhhh.

Joking aside, I'm guessing Toyota numbers are realistic and on the "safer side" of where other makers are inflating their numbers to be.

And as stated above by others, Trailer Weights are even more inaccurate. Do not believe the RV salesman when he tells you you can tow a 20' trailer with an SUV or Minivan.

I believe it's being called a sham because Toyota advertises 1,800 lbs payload but when you check the payload sticker on the truck it's usually substantially less. Toyota does put the * there and if you read all the fine print they admit you're not likely to ever have that high of a payload rating. It's just more misleading marketing hype.

No worries. Apologies here too. May have gone a little too hard in the paint. I have "tick" about people complaining about their payload not being 2000lbs when it's like 1300-1500; in a "half ton" truck and my response was frustration for reading a thread about it again. I should know better.

Very informative, I guess with a gross weight of 6,080 lbs your truck bed load was pretty light.
On mine for sure, I carry too much stuff

    Thanks,

Our Tundra's current curb weight is 5440 pounds with accessories installed, full fuel, no occupants, and no camping gear. Our camping gear, lightweight bags & golf clubs, and occupants weigh in around 640 pounds before connecting the travel trailer that has a tongue weight of 480 pounds. Our Tundra's GVW is 6990 pounds.

    We do camp light!

Thanks a lot for that very true statement, I have updated my numbers, now payload is under limit and my wife can safely come onboard  but I still have to work on my GVWR, I carry too many tools and repair materials...

I wonder if that’s due to dynamic vs static load. I mean, if the truck won’t start the load is static right? :p

    Just for fun, in my 20s I had a 1982 Peugeot 504 4x2 truck 6.6ft bed with a 2750 lb payload.

Regular cans are a great solution to the payload woes of a 1/2 ton. Too bad they're low sales killed them off.

Well, that's obvious. Look at those wheels. Solid with no holes. Maybe if I find hubcaps with no holes I can increase my payload.
