Anybody have to Re-gear… or feel their truck is sluggish? With 285/75/17?

I have 275/75/18 with KO2, about an inch smaller than 285/75/17. Feels more sluggish than oem, but it’s surely gonna feel slower. The bigger tire is completing less rotations/mile, so it’ll require more power. Lightweight wheels can somewhat suppress that by reducing the weight of the entire wheel slightly but nothing significant.

I’ve been going back and forth between 17 and 18 wheels and think I’ve landed on going forth with 17’s. I am getting the nitto ridge grapplers 285/70/17 C rated paired with method mr316 17in 8” wide and +25 offset…my questions is what does the width of the tire do between 8, 8.5 or 9 inches? Pros/cons? I just know to get the +25 offset I had to go with 8in wide wheels.

Picture of the tires sitting next to truck below in case others were interested

Here are mine. I still get big tire envy but I do think these are better than the stock 18s with 275/65/18.

Looks good. I have the same size tire and exact wheels on order. How much space do you have from the UCA and the tire? How much space is between the tire and fender at full Left and right turn? Do you think a set of spacers 1.25" could fit? Thanks

There’s alot of space between the tire and uca. I can it three fingers in between. No problem with full lock left/right turn. I did move the front flap forward by a 1/4” just by moving the screw slightly forward. No rubbing at all.

Here's what I went with: 17x8.5 Method 307 with 285/70x17 BF Goodrich KO2 and Bilstein 5100 in the front.

Which offset did you go with? When I look they have 2 widths available ( 8 and 8.5) with different offsets.

I assume that you can do the 8.5 width with 0 offset -or- 8 width with 25 offset and the net is the same as far as clearance/trimming/etc. And the amount the tire protrudes out of the wheel well is similar as well?

    Mine is a 0 offset which I like the look of. I don't have any issues with rubbing. IMG_9512.jpg IMG_9513.jpg IMG_9514.jpg IMG_9515.jpg

Thanks for the reply. It just concerns me that you have the modified front suspension. Mine is all stock.

Also, any regearing/reprogramming done or needed after the wheel change ?

I thought as a potentially useful follow up to this .. the Method MR316 +25 will not fit (according to local shop) on the 2nd Gen based on brake placement. It seems fine on 3rd gen forward. I decided to go with the Method MR316 0 offset with 285/70R17 BF Goodrich tires. Technically not installed yet but should be fine w/o need for any modifications.

    Method 703 17x8.5 35mm offset. Toyo AT3 285/70. OME BP51 with Dakars. Approx 2.5” lift all around.

Referenced this thread a lot when considering tire size so figured I’d return the favor.

You made a better call getting the Falkens versus Nitto's. I have heard so many good things about those Wildpeaks, from quiet road noise to last a long time, man. I have heard the Ridge Grapplers are hyped up and don't do as well on wet surfaces. I don't know, though, just what I have been reading.
