I 1000% agree. I'm just a guy trying to make people informed. Love me, hate me, I don't care. I'm not a celebrity. I'm not "famous." I'm just doing what I hope is going to help out others the best way I can.

My list … coming off an F150, not sure its gen3 or Toyota, or hybrid…..still in the learning stage!

    • #1 -- Trucks shuts off if when its auto-started and you open the doors to pack the truck! Really dumb for snow cleaning!
    • Once the truck is started if your keys are in your pocket, it beeps every time you walk away. A security “feature” that makes me leave the keys in a started truck all the time!
    • Auto-start , heating, seat heater and defrost. – I have only experienced this a few times so far, but the truck is crazy cold with auto start, and haven’t completely figured out the setting it before getting out. Predict the weather and how you want the next time you need the truck.
    • No key pad for entry. If you are walking by it has to be kept unlocked or carry the keys/phone app at all times. Just very inconvenient often.
    • Tailgate step. Added the Toyota step but its crap.. I’m used to walking up the tailgate step with arms full one shot, and now it’s a 2 step process, put in down, climb in and pick it back up to place it. It might be laziness, but now I’m finding I’m putting it down on the tailgate shoving it forward with a stick.
    • I often pack the front seat with a bin, and it thinks it’s a person…constant beeping, so my current solution is always have the passenger seat belt buckled.
    • Some of the options that are most common are not the default in Toyota. I have to Youtube everything to figure it out and what is the setting called. Like while backing up a trailer, suddenly slams the brakes… then go change that setting.
    • No front tow hooks, but added the aftermarket ones.
    • “Bumping the hazards when grabbing your phone.” But that one could be just me and fumble fingers..
There still are many plus features…

“ Lane Tracing Assist pin-balls like a drunk driver “– That was a negative for sure, I Youtubed that and changed it to lane centering and works much better. No idea why LTA is even an option..

“Hands-free text message read back does not automatically mute the radio or other audio sources. “– I like this, I prefer this concept over a full mute. Once the volumes are set right, I like it read and the background music with the volume lowered.

Some of these I just need to research and see if there are options to change them, and figure out how! thanks to this site for many helpful tips!

My 2020 Lexus NX300 had TSS 2.0 and had no complaints. It was pretty much perfect and only needed you to have 1 finger on the steering wheel and it drove itself pretty much. I couldn't believe that the corolla got 3.0 before the all new tundra.

I was actually speaking about Lane Centering, not LTA, sorry for the confusion.

Just to be clear, it's the feature that's suppose to keep the truck tracking in the center of the lane automatically, but you still have to keep a hand on the wheel, or it gives you a warning. It has 3 sensitivity settings. The first time I used it on a long road trip, it caused my wife to wake from a nap and ask me "why are you swerving so much?"

I've tried all 3 sensitivity settings and they all do the same thing...truck veers one way, senses the lane line, then overcorrects the other direction. Back and forth constantly. I can easily steer a straighter line myself, and since I have to keep a hand on the wheel anyway, what's the point of Lane Centering? I've used the same feature in other vehicles. Toyota's implementation in the Gen 3 Tundra is terrible, IMO.

Hmmm...mine doesn't automatically lower the volume of any audio source at all. I have to manually lower the volume of the radio, or music source, to hear the text message read out. I'm starting to think it might be a iPhone/CarPlay issue since Android users don't seem to have the same problem. I'm hoping a future software update solves this.

I’m using CarPlay and it is only the center speaker on the dash that lowers when I get a text. The other speakers aren’t affected. I still have to swipe the txt away, turn the radio down, then get into txt, otherwise it turns the active txt volume down and not the radio.

I fully admit, at my age my hearing isn't what it used to be. I honestly don't notice the volume of any speakers lowering during the text message read out. I've gotten used to hitting the radio off button before I select the text in order to hear the read out. But that's a step that shouldn't be necessary.

Having said that, navigation prompts are no problem using Google Maps. They mute everything and I can hear them loud and clear. In fact I had to turn the default volume down on navigation prompts because they were too loud.

    Dunno.

This can be done. Go to Settings > swipe down to Display > find the Display tab thingy and swipe it. This will cause the screen to black out, but keep audio, etc running. To turn back on, touch the center of the screen. My 2015 Tacoma had the same feature. Good luck.

Geez. In the previous gen, all you have to do is it press menu and there is a button there that turns off the display.

I think my description makes it sound worse than it is. It's actually very simple. I haven't seen it in the previous gen Tundra, so I'll take your word for it.

Once you do the setting change,(that is only done once) from then on out all you have to do is swipe down on the screen to turn it off. To turn it back on touch the center of the screen.

    Just starting
Okay, not gonna beat up Toyota (I bought this one after 20 yrs of Chevys), but I sort of thought the same thing on some of the things said above. Toyota Engrs over-designing something.

I agree with the lane keeping thingy - but it's MUCH better than others I have tried. Don't even get me started on Jeep - that was downright DANGEROUS. I just did a 3000 mile round trip from Texas to California and back last week (even Stood on a corner in Winslow, AZ) and I found that it was much easier to control than others. I just kept my thumb on the bottom of the steering wheel and it feels the resistance and says "OK". Adaptive Cruise Control and it was almost a self driving car.

My pet peeve: Auto Door Unlock and Lock. Here's my scenario: I come out from work. Grab the Passenger handle - BEEP - Door unlocks. Throw my backpack/laptop on the seat and close door. Walk around to the drivers side. Grab the Driver handle - BEEP BEEP. Door locks. WTF would you lock again just 5 seconds after I unlocked? Now I have to step back, wait a few seconds, then re-grab the driver handle - BEEP - to unlock again.

I haven't had a chance to tow my trailer yet, but I suspect that's going to be an issue backing up too. I have already had the Toyota slam on the brakes when backing into a parking stall just because there is a bush there.

    Interesting feedback on here..

I'm using Apple/Carpaly and the reading the texts couldn't be better. but I can't remember if I adjusted volumes on it. you can just hear the music and txt read at perfect volume. so just know there is a way to make it work!

for the reversing with a trailer.. this button helps a lot. there seems to be no detection of trailer regardless of 4-5-7 pin wire harness, so if you reverse and foot off both pedals, it brakes. everything is perfect with this button pushed. ** and special other note.. you have to Set your "reversing mirrors". there is second adjustment for that , which can also add to brake slams frustration if you don't figure it out. still can't have the drive door open, but that is whole other deal with brake slams..

maybe I need to try the Lane centering option more. I guess I have not used it enough.

I see @Arctic beat me to it, but I will add:
I pressed this button ONCE the second day I had the truck.
I back into my garage every day and it's tight. No more braking slams in reverse.
It will still beep at you, so have your thumb ready at the OK/MUTE button on the steering wheel to shut that up.

Yeah, the autonomous braking is pretty ridiculous when it comes to things like bushes. With trailers, I've towed my RV, a utility trailer, and a boat. The only one that gave me any grief was the boat. Once I add a trailer to the Trailer Settings page, it automatically turns off the rear sensors and has been problem free since. Have you had any issues with the truck automatically stopping while moving forward, from like a stop sign or red light? With NOTHING in front of you?! I've had that happen three times. I almost got rear ended in each case. I had to put the truck in Park and then back into Drive to get it to go. Infuriating! I took it to Toyota after each case and they claim they "fixed" it. It did have an "update" last time I took it to Toyota and hasn't done this since :fingerscrossed:

I'm from MN and it gets a little cold during this time of year, and this issue has made it to the top of my list. But, why didn't the programmers allowed the heated seats and steering wheel to turn on with remote start from my fob?

As I sit in the backseat on the way home, the whistling from the vent system is frustrating. Did no one think to test it?

I bet it was such a fine sight to see.

There is a setting somewhere for auto lock after so many seconds. I've seen it somewhere. I may have seen it in Carista. Mine doesn't do that. But here is what mine does. I get in the truck, start it, then I look at all of the crap in my passenger floorboard. I get out, grab a garbage bag and walk around to the passenger side and grab the handle. Door doesn't unlock. Oh hey, the keys are in my pocket. I pull out my keys and double-press the unlock. Son of a bitch it won't unlock. I have to walk around to the driver's door and hit the unlock. The NAV sucks. I haven't used the actual app on the display. I use Waze on my Android Auto. The reason I know it sucks is that it displays the "current" speed limit for the street I am on right above the speedometer on the dashboard. The speed limit shown is for about two streets back. It is never correct unless I stay on the same road for half mile or so. Whenever the speed limit changes on the same road there is a huge lag time. All the while, Waze is spot on with the speed limit on the multi-media display.

Another NAV sucks sign is that it NEVER gives me the 'school zone' pop-up in the same place. I have to drive thru a school zone everyday leaving and going back home. Sometimes I get the pop-up a half mile before I get to the school zone. Sometimes I get it 100 yards before I get to it, and sometimes I am in the school zone before I get the pop-up. If you are going to do it half ass, don't do it!!
