Finally got around to installing the Kenwood. Everything went pretty smooth thanks to all the great info on here! Only thing I'm bummed on is it now mostly covers the AC/Fan display.

We used the mounting brackets from the OEM head unit in the beginning of the install without realizing the Metra kit had new/adjustable ones. Pretty sure I threw the "extra" metra kit's plasticware away at the end.

I honestly didn't even realize it was blocked until a few minutes down the road after buttoning everything back up... If it really bothers me in the long run I guess I'll buy another dash kit.

I thought the Kenwood had adjustment built in for the screen location relative to the body. The Alpine is set up so you can adjust what height the screen is attached.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I did raise or lower it after I installed it. Like @SouthWestGA said, there's two Philips head screws on each side that you remove and then slide the screen up/down.

Currently at the Best Buy in Kennewick, WA and loving that their Black Friday sale on the Kenwood 1037s is save $200, so it’s $1249, for a head unit many got on sale for under $400, if I remember correctly

If someone's missed the boat but still really wants in: There's someone on Facebook that's reselling the Alpine 511 for something like $850? I think? Still a markup from what they paid at Best Buy, but it's new in box and still much cheaper than current new $1200 pricing. I bet there's haggle room in there yet too.

@RainMan_PNW Did you say there was a new setting available after an update that allowed for the front camera to automatically come on below a certain speed? I've been looking through the settings and can't seem to find that. Do you recall where it was located?

it was in the Maestro setup. At least on my RR2.
I thought it was cool for about two days, and then it annoyed the shit out of me and i turned it off.

There's settings for the Maestro from within the headunit - it was buried in there.

I reached out to Trail Grid Pro and asked if they take care of everything regarding the adapters, Maestro, etc and here's what he said:

I'm also gonna go out on a limb (based on the Navigation video I watched from them) and say they won't be sending it with the parking brake bypass installed either. I could be wrong though.

I thought about that but it's easy to do so I don't mind. Does Alpine do the wire bypass in addition to the screen bypass? My Pioneer needed the screen bypass to enable the feature - wasn't good enough to just do the wire

Alpine requires the PAC TR-1 or a few other flavors of programmed timers to send the signal to the HU. Kenwoods only need to have the brake wire grounded. And yes, Pioneers need the bypass and you have to hit the hidden menu or whatever (it's been a long time since I did a Pioneer).

    For the Alpine, this post

Blame Alpine and not knowing how to use freaking compression lol.

Doesn’t seem to be anything super meaningful. But they did add some options for the 2nd camera, I think.
