Yep. That or I'll catch the truck on fire and burn my house down in the process. Either way, it should be interesting.

Anyone with a Kenwood have a solution for the xm tuner hook up? Might just leave it be since I don’t use xm anyway.

Yeah, the rest of it is fine. There is a kit with metal brackets, but it's double din only, which doesn't work with the Alpine.

Thanks but for now I'll just roll with what I got. I'm already tired of figuring out all the harnesses, modules, kits, and adapter and I haven't even taken my truck apart yet.

And remember, this is from somebody that already kinda knows what the fuck I'm doing. Technology is a PITA sometimes. :annoyed:

100% this haha. I’ve redone my shit so many times because something that should work doesn’t work the way it should or the way I want it to. I’ve bitched to @BiggHertz a lot over the last week…

So does this new head unit run the speakers or is it the same amp under the seat? I have a non jbl. Seams way louder to me, but maybe I’m dreaming.

Only had to take the thing out 3 or 4 times before I got it. A little tip I found on the Kenwood is that you have to slide the unit up to get the AC control back in if you want it to sit as low as it can. Not a big deal to move only 4 screws. Or you can just have it set high with one screw holding it in the side until you are ready to put it back together.

Ah, I lied. I went to put the mic in today and, nope, not happy with the hassle. It was actually easier to run up the A pillar, oddly.

Ok, so I ordered the USB/HDMI port to install in the bottom tray under the radio (by the USB/12V plugs) which will arrive tomorrow.

I've been looking at the instructions for the Alpine DVR-320R and I'm not sure I follow how to connect it directly to the ILX-F511. I'm not using the Car Charger Cable, but will be doing the hardwire method instead. I understand plugging in the cameras and the Yellow/Red/Black connections but am lost on the "F CAM" connection as well as the "REMOCON IN" and "REMOCON OUT" and how these connect at the back of the Alpine. Am I going to need the "sold separately" cable noted in the diagram? If so, wonder why Alpine does not include that to integrate with the head unit.

The Alpine manual however shows that the "Drive Recorder In" and LIN are used for the Dashcam connections. Do I not need to use the "F CAM and the REMOCON In/Out from the dash cam wiring and will be using the 2 LIN Cables instead and plug the yellow rca from the F CAM cord into the Drive Recorder In on the Alpine harness and leave the red/white rca's unattached?

@BiggHertz any ideas on this one?

Anyone remember if the black connector is XM and the white is GPS, or if I've got that backwards on my 2015 non-JBL?

IIRC, white connector is GPS and black connector is SAT. Confirm by following the white connector to the GPS antenna that is about 8-10 inches to the left of the center speaker.

I don’t have any explicit experience with this integration, but in previous generations, some of the Alpine h/u’s previously utilized a combination 1/8” jack that included stereo audio (red + white) and video (yellow), which they simply carried over in their documentation or failed to update it entirely.

While I’m not certain, I do feel that the signal delivery from the dash-cam DVR to your h/u can be accomplished by utilizing the composite video (yellow RCA) and the LIN connector.

Thanks for the response. I'll give that a try when I get ready to install (Using the Yellow RCA and the 2 LIN Connectors).

Unless you’re daisy chaining multiple LIN capable devices. You should only need just the one.

Crutchfield just responded to my message as well. They stated to follow the head unit manual instead of the Dash Cam instructions. I was told to utilize the yellow RCA and Lin Connectors and I should be good to go aside from also connecting the battery, acc, and ground connections of course. Hopefully this helps others out too. Not sure if anyone else ordered the dash cam or just me.

Today I decided to do some prep work on the bench to get ready to install this weekend. A few things.
    1. The Metra dash kit looks fine but is shit. The plastic brackets are total crap and no matter how you try to adjust it, you'll end up with a small 1/16" gap at either the little tray or the top of the HU.
    2. Alpine provides 3 different screws (black hex, silver round, and silver recessed) all the same thread and length with the exact same description in the manual M5x8 and no indication of which goes where.
    3. The real pisser, the screen comes set in the highest position, so unless you want it sticking up 8" above the dash you need to remove 4 tiny screws and adjust it down. Fine, but some idiot on the assembly line at Alpine must have hit them with extra ugga-duggas and some red Loctite. I got 3 out but the last one would not budge. Yes, I was using the proper size and pitch screwdriver, so much so that I had so much down and rotational force that I thought I was going to break the screen. Of course the screw totally stripped. I was quite, ah, irritated, so I put it all away and will tackle it another day. Best advice my late dad gave me is if something is being a bitch , walk away for a while.
I'll go at it later this week, maybe cut a slot with a Dremel to use a regular screwdriver, or carefully drill off the head of the screw.

I had issues with one of the four screws as well and it began to strip, but luckily it was still useable. My advice is to adjust the height and put those screws back in, but not completely tightened down because you may need to take them out again for more adjustments. Also found it amusing that when you drop to the lowest height and try to reattach the screen you can't because of the angle. That's why I say not to fully tighten those screws in case more decide to give you trouble. I had to adjust the height, then tilt the angle before I could drop the height some more.
