I ended up going with your choice for the extra coverage. I’d rather them not even attempt to cut it at the exposed area of the rear. With TPFI Cat shield I feel more confident that a potential thief may move to the next vehicle.

My 3 main reasons for this shield are one piece design, availability, and cost. Install was a breeze and coverage is more than adequate. It’s a simple bolt on design that doesn’t interfere with front OR package or transfer case shields.

No issues with vibration or odd noises. I’m pleased and would recommend to anyone else. I don’t rock crawl with mine so not worried about it getting beat up.

Just curious, and this question is open to anyone.

If a dude is under the truck with a sawzall, can he cut the plates up to gain access to the cats?

Not only IMO would that be problematic noise-wise (this cat plate would rattle like a mofo VERY loudly when trying to sawzall it), but it would significantly diminish the factor where these thieves have their success...time to do the job...

I've yet to see a report on this site where cats were stolen with cat shields in place, unless I've overlooked. Maybe there are indeed instances out there, just haven't seen them on this site...

Like @Cthulhu said, the main factor of the plates is slowing the thieves down enough that they don't even try and just move on to something else. They're not necessarily intended to be impenetrable or anything like that.

The plate looks great but,,,if they have a sawzall then an impact with a security bit from harbor freight will be with them too. I think the shield companies need to work more on the fasting system. If it take you guys 20 mins to install it will take them 1 min to remove. Then the thief will sell shields on Craigslist and eBay.

Are you still happy with this cat plate?

Absolutely! Though to be clear, I think “plate” is definitely a misnomer; shield is more apropos as I believe it might not take that much punishment offroad. When I’m ready to move on from my rig being my DD, I’ll definitely be getting true plates.

Thanks, ordered a Torans guard a few days ago and got it today. Any other tips on installing? I have a TRD Pro so hoping it fits.

Hey thanks for posting this thread and installation info. Considering one of these, but have a few questions. The back section where the sheet metal jogs down before the rear cats, if you grab that rear turned up flange does the unit flex easily? That is an unsupported section and I was wondering if it is stiff enough with 1/8" aluminum sheet offer any resistance to bending and also vibration while driving due to air flow under the truck. I wonder why they didn't turn up two flanges (upward bend in sheet metal) to block both access and protect both sides near the rear cats. Also did you buy this off of Amazon? I ask because the pictures on the website does not look like your part. There is no sheet metal jog down or bend near the rear of the unit. The entire sheet piece is flat. Wondering if there was a earlier version and they didn't update their ad on Amazon. Lastly, are you still happy with the unit and did it protect your cats from any dirt-bags? Thanks for your help!

I ordered mine off Amazon. It's pretty solid, it will move a little if you put some pressure on the unsupported part in the rear but not a lot. No wind noise or vibration on mine.
