AKA wheelspin mode, AKA Raped Ape mode, AKA Toyota's version of Ludicrous mode. (At least when you're not towing.)

2024 Limited tongue weight is just under 1900lbs. I stay as light as I can when traveling... dump all tanks, pack lightly. We don't bring everything and the kitchen sink from home. EAZ-lift Recurve3 WD with sway control. Tundra TSC/TCS off (Tow Haul setting option when programming trailer) so I don't get any surprises from the Tundra when passing or getting passed. I don't tow in radar cruise for the same reason, but I don't travel far or often. Rear airbags help level the truck and maximize WD effectiveness. If you move locations a lot or are a full-timer, my setup is not for you. My rig sits in one spot for the summer and then back into storage. The shorter and lighter the better with the Tundra if you are on the move... or get an Airstream I guess.

Learning a lot in this thread as a Newby to Tundras. I have to say though, adjusting anti-sway is the key to towing a large trailer. If you have it set right, the lateral pull on the trailer is offset by the direction change, whether by side wind or a large rig nearby. Had a few trailers in the past...

Also, wind resistance is a cubic function, but acts more like (and easier to calculate) speed times mpg is a constant on highways. E.g. increase your speed by 10% and your mpg will go down by 10%.

Finally someone with a Gen 3 Tundra has 1900 lbs (of payload?) tongue weight. I have been waiting for this day to come. We know that Toyota has been advertising a number like this but we have never been able to find a Tundra with this capacity. You would be the first! It might have something to do with the Hybrid option.

Thanks for chiming in and letting us know that this is possible. When we got our Tundra, we were expecting a payload like this but all we got was 1390 lbs according to the yellow sticker on the door jam.

Do you think it would be possible to take a pic of that yellow sticker to share with us this rather good payload number?

??? I always thought tongue weight was 10% on the trailer weight - or there abouts. Guess his trailer weights 19,000 lbs or almost 10 tons. That is one big bad ass trailer. Must have 6 big screen TV's, four bathrooms, marble center island, double oven, microwave, full cook top and 1000 gallon water tank, along with a few other glamping features! Manufacturer, model and pics please. BTW no way in hell I'm going to rent, purchase or tow it.

I would use a number closer to 15% so that would put the trailer weight at around 12,667 lbs. That sounds more like it and totally doable for the beefy Gen 3 Tundra. Of course, the airbags would need to be pumped up to 40 psi and the WDH cranked up to the max. ;)

Totally agree, something is out of place with the reported tongue weight of 1,900 lbs so we were playing around with that. I really can't see anyone trying to tow a trailer that heavy with a Tundra.

As a point of discussion, I run 12% tongue weight (500 lbs) on my 4,100 lbs loaded Airstream which seems to suit the Tundra quite well. I purposely move contents forward to get this number and find it very stable.

I'd buy a double axle 350 1 ton before using a single axle 1/2 ton to pull that load every day of the week. One flat tire on the camper of that size or truck with that load and you are on a life (not for the good) change.

big difference between 4,100 lbs and 12,667. 4,100 yes on our Tundra. 12,667 no way.

Yes, the posts were more sarcastic and joking than real. If someone was pulling that big a trailer, or even 19,000 lbs which was in the post right above mine, the cops would need to be called!

Only 68 years of observed and behind the driver seat experience here. I've seen it all - until I haven't. Unfortunate and sickening on the "until I haven't" experiences. Better safe than sorry and six feet under. JMO.

I've always figured 2/3 of max towable weight for long distance towing.

My SR did not have any driving modes and had ~40hp less than a regular Tundra.

Tow+ mode with more HP is definitely raped ape mode.

My understanding is that just driving these trucks results in complete destruction of the engine

I've heard #1 main bearing will spontaneously combust while parked, no driving needed.
