We were looking at this option as well. We have a toy hualer but can only pack a seadoo inside when we go lake camping. We want to get a boat and don't want to take 2 vehicles. I have a 2019 Tundra Crew Cab, 4x4, lifted, 35x12.5x20 size tires, suspension lift and TRD sway bars but was wondering what else I need to carry this load "safely" even though I know it will be over loaded slightly in weight.

We have a 2019 Crew Cab, 4x4, lifted, 35x12.5x20 nitto grappler tires, TRD sway bars but not sure what else I need to keep it from sagging if it does since this truck will be my daily commute when camper is off the truck. Was the 650 comfortable for camping and easy for pick up and go at camping?

Camper weighs in at 1320 wet as configured (full propane and 9 gallons water). Heaviest things are the 3-way Dometic fridge and a/c, absolutely wanted to keep the a/c but also added fantastic fan. Camper fits in the bed perfectly and I can even close the tailgate which allows the use of the backup camera and sensors. I have the TRD front and rear sway bars, air bags/on board compressor, and Bilstein 6112's/5100's. Trailer (with brakes) is loaded with one either 300 or 500# motorcycle, two bicycles, camping chairs/various camping gear, and cassette toilet in the v-nose. Sometimes we have a 2 person kayak on top of the trailer too. I have zero issues driving/hauling, truck does absolutely great. I'm older, have a CDL for work and drive sensibly. It's been almost 3 years now with over 20,000 miles traveling the west with the wife, we couldn't be more comfortable.

I would say over 80% of the truck camper set ups you see out there are far too heavy for the manufacture payload capacity. I myself, am right there at the quoted limits, but knowing this and driving with a bit of care and respect for the weight, you'll be fine.

^ sweet setup!! Not saying you’re being unsafe - but unless you have the highest payload 2.5 gen ever built you’re quite a bit over. You mentioned the camper being 1,320 but you didn’t account for the 300-400 lbs of you and your passenger(s) plus another 300-400 pounds of tongue weight. And we are still ignoring the weight of the air bags, compressor, bigger shocks etc.

Like I said, we’re fine. Unless you have my set up and have driven the miles, you’re only crunching numbers and don’t have the real world experience to comment on, fair enough? I hear exactly what you are saying, but we’re fine thank you. Glad you like the set up.

I have a Lance trailer and belong to LOA (Lance Owners of America) forum.

There is one member I know of carrying an 825 on his Tundra and says it handles it fine. He's also done quite a bit of suspension upgrades to handle being GROSSLY over payload. His screen name is CAPTCL

You might search around over there (Type "Tundra" and "Camper" keywords in the search) I found a few threads on the subject using those search terms.

Doing something dumb and then telling other people it’s ok is how we get dumber as a society. The purpose of forums like these would hopefully be to inform the ignorant on safe and proper use and maintenance of our vehicles. Be safe out there people!!!

I would be curious how the composite bedsides hold up, I don't think there is any room for stiffeners with the camper mounted unless you did a modification.

Depending on the spec on that Tundra, it may not be more than 5-600lbs over payload, never mind axle, that campers weight by the manufacturer is
    1285

The Tundra (all generations) are great trucks. I will die on that hill. They can be put through some pretty good abuse within reason.

Still a 1/2 ton truck though.

I'd say when the lugs snap off or bearings fail. 7D7C6E68-DBF4-48D3-8508-433AA949629F.jpg593A1E49-B7A7-431A-8013-0328E8E9B59A.jpg

Yeah, that's not something I want to find out about, especially with my family in the truck.
