If I had money to burn and flipped vehicles within warranty I would not hesitate because who cares, not my problem.
Sounds like that motor can make some steam.

I'm thinking in the next few months I'm going to buy a 22 rifle. I'm trying to decide on bolt action versus semi-auto. Bolt action probably is more reliable and requires less frequent cleaning. Semi-auto is more fun.

Semi auto is more fun. It’s not difficult to clean. I have it in both the rifle and pistol version

I had a dedicated AR-15 lower with a CMMG .22lr upper. It took black dog magazines. Was a great setup and a good trainer for the manual of arms for my AR-15 in 5.56. The other part that was nice about it was being able to switch uppers and use different calibers.

I know some folks just get a .22lr conversion bolt for their standard AR's but I preferred running a dedicated .22lr upper.

    .22lr is fun all around.

    Do the bolt.

It really helps you to do controlled cycles.

If you can eye the target during bolt cycles you will encourage smoother shooting.

In addition, it's cheaper because it takes longer to send one down the barrel.

Cleaning will be equal. It's based on number of rounds fired and .22 is dirty. You'll just go through rounds faster in a semi. If you want reliable in a semi auto get a Ruger 10/22. There is no better semi .22 LR platform. Rimfires are always a little wonky in a semi, but that one runs better than any other I've seen or heard of.

Eh, IMO, if you're going to get a bolt rimfire get a 17 HMR. 22 isn't fast enough/long reaching enough in the flat part of it's trajectory for the accuracy of the bolt platform to be significantly better than the semi.

Ruger 10/22 for the win. I have 2. I also have a couple single shot Cooey Model 39 bolt .22 rifles which are fun too. Savage makes a good mag fed bolt .22 as well. I'd step up to a .22WMR or .17HMR to really take advantage if a bolt gun"s ability, but for the cost of those calibers though, you may as well just get a .223.

I agree, but I think we are comparing apples to oranges.

Let's start simple and cheap, then see if the shooting bug bites and he finds he wants to go down the rabbit hole.
