My Mac died this past summer. I'd be lost on windows. And I haven't replaced it with anything because I have a computer in my pocket.

New Windows offers security upgrades, so I guess that’s a benefit. With a lot of the setup and features, basically they are flat out fucking with the consumer at this point, making it harder to dumb down and opt out of their software and subscriptions. Plus, they sold out a long time ago and killed Windows Media Center.

    Fuck Microsoft.

Most of the updates were under the covers, not UI. Better security, connectivity to upstream systems and virtualization, gaming, etc. I like that they're innovating, but I'd rather the interface stay as constant as possible.

Wait, I thought we were designing a zipperless cooler?

Nah, they fail quicker than clips so Sales rejected the design.

I have boxes of “zipperless” product tags headed to China right now!

Pfft, no one will read it…

Interesting dilemma when you want to spend your money at a Mom and Pop store only to find they stock nothing you want.

How am I supposed to not spend money at Amazon

Check the build link in my signature.
It’s not the speed or RAM specs. It’s the embedded security layer in it (or lack thereof). They are trying to improve kernel-level security in the newer OS.

there is actually a way to override that check during installation (up through W11 release 23H2 at least) and it actually runs very well on hardware that is much less capable than what you have. Combine it with a decent SSD primary drive and I think it runs better than 7 or 10 on many systems.

The problem is compatibility with TPM 2.0. I think I could get it done virtualizing and have software-based 2.0, and probably not give up that much RAM. I'm sure 11 would install fine with it like it is, but I'm also sure some random update 18 months later would brick it.

Haha. I never ask if a different brand is okay, but I'll definitely let them know that their preferred choice isn't available here. Some people really care about their loyalty to a soda brand.
    Customer: I'll have a coke

    me: Pepsi.

    them: coke?

    me: Pepsi.

I'll play along as many times as they try and clarify themselves. Let's them know that listening is an active skill.

Pepsi and coke are Totally different flavors, they aren’t substitutes for each other. At The Buffet; I order makers and coke, I know the gun isn’t legit coke and I don’t care. But sometimes the tender will open up a real coke can and pour, even though I didn’t ask for it.

Oh I know they are totally different. It's why I clarify. But Pepsi has lock on CO mtn towns. Coke gives awful service so you'll be hard pressed to find it in restaurants and bars.

I bypass this by asking if they have coke or pepsi products, and then I order appropriately.

Smart man right here. Funny part is I always tell people my name and a few things when I greet them and drop waters off. One of those things is "we have ice tea, lemonade and Pepsi products."

Those that prefer coke will likely default to DR Pepper...

    That’s an interesting factoid.
It’s all over here, but it seems like “higher” end places have coke, normal joints have Pepsi, and the cheap places have the RC(which I feel is closer to Pepsi than coke)

We get a lot of Texans and people from the south and they look at us like we're crazy because not many places have coke, or sweet tea. It's like they're wondering how we survive.

There’s the rub…the small shops around us can compete when they find a corner of the market for boutique types of things. But if you are going to sell the same things as Target and Amazon with a 20-40% price premium to me (yes I know the small stores don’t have buying power) then you get no money
