My wife wants to quit her job and have both of us start our own business. Doing what I have no idea.... helluva time to start a business I told her. Besides, she's the only one makin real money in this shindig lol her bonuses are damn near a third of my salary.

 

Yeah, I pay stupid taxes in my income bracket. But the job itself is an argument against taxes. Incompetence, corruption, nepotism and just outright insane expenditures. If the public knew what some people were paid on this site and how much money was wastes, heads would roll.

 

Whistleblowing is at an all time high on the popularity scale.

 

I work for a government corporation. They'll never change. LOL.

I'll take what I can, enjoy it while it lasts then take what I've learned back to the private sector after this contract.

 

I'm sure you can figure it out. LOL

 

I'll take snow over the triple digit temps. Parts of Oregon and Washington are perfect in everything but the people and how they run it.

We'll see about moving after I retire, probably just travel in the winter months.
No state income tax and relatively low property tax make it desirable, despite the BS way they run this state.

 

I wish we would have gone on strike, I could use the time off, even without pay..

As to the contract, some people are never satisfied..

Can't though; most LE unions/employer contracts do not allow for strikes...

 

A lot of times it deals w/contractual issues aside from just pay.

Also, many companies that are looking to reduce costs long term will look agreeing to some higher wages (w/reduced hours) for their current staff, and then when new folks are hired they end up under different contracts usually resulting in more steps, lower wages and less benefits for the new folks coming in (particularly because at 32 or 36 hours they would not be 'full time')...

 

Yep. Being a public power company, we have a no-strike clause too.

 

Drives me nuts when anything is described as a Govt bailout, etc... it's the taxpayers doing the bailouts; which means any time a large corporation, bank, etc.. goes under or needs fixin', we all pay for it. All the while, CEOs and other execs remain multi-millionaires, billionaires, etc...

Ok, that's my rant for the night; carry on people... I'm going back to my fixed income lifestyle

 

Was not uncommon for us to see 2, 3, or maybe 4% COLAs each year, but never anything more than 5%; on the other side of that coin, we also received deferred COLAs during difficult economic times and even opted for more time off in lieu of $$...

 

hmm interesting. im not anti union. (honestly i'd love to have the union at work here.. but it keeps failing to get brought in)
but my fathers experience with the union he was in for general mills was great.. until they got greedy enough that General mills just decided to shut the doors when the demands got ridiculous.. 7 years ago

 

Maybe this statement is a bit of an overreach, but I'd argue that the 'costs' will be passed down to consumers, and it will be the new narrative and justification for maintaining inflated purchase pricing for new and used vehicles. Instead of blaming the previous few years, the new blame will be on the unions and the workers.
