What under tailgate lighting are the Gen3 owners using? I've seen a few listed on the 2.5 thread. Looking for a
Plug and play LED option. Opt-7 looks nice but their product info is generic as it only shows Toyota and nothing specific to Gen3 Tundra. TIA and pics appreciated!

Most aren't vehicle specific, they just use the 4 pin trailer connection. Just verify dimensions with your space to see which will fit. I picked up a Curt 7 pin adapter so I could splice into the reverse wire on that and not mess with the actual harness (the Curt adapter connects in line between the plug on the bumper and your trucks wire harness, it also adds a 4 pin connector so you can wire up the tailgate lightbar without affecting the plugs on the bumper).

?? So my camper uses the 7pin connector - if I use the 4pin connector stock option on the opt-7 then the reverse light option is not
functional (ie takes the 7pin to make reverse light work)?

And if I use the 4 pin for the opt-7 will then 7pin work for the camper at the same time? Sorry for my ?

Edit: looks like the Mothership managed to make this more difficult for Gen3 - the wiring and retaining clip for the 7pin/4pin hook-up is directly in the middle of the lip and offset to one side - totally f's up where you would want to place the light. Not even a 2 piece option works based on where the conflict is.

I did the vled plate one. It’s just the three dots and reverse bar. Personally don’t like the strip as it’s over done and doesn’t look great to me.

Toyota has an oem one now.

Thanks for the information - I did not know Toyota had an option for our Gen3 under tailgate lighting. Maybe @ryanwgregg knows more about it and part numbers?

Ram TRX oe rear marker lights tapped into the trailer harness. I posted a while back with everything involved. I’ll try to find it if anyone’s interested.

Yes, but my lightbar is attached with velcro so I can remove it if needed.

PUTCO does not offer a unit for Gen3 Tundra.

Do you own a Gen3? The space available between bed and bumper is tight as the tailgate lip swings through. You will also find the tailgate bottom is not straight with least clearance at center and then there is the spare crank port. Good luck finding a decent bar that will span. That Is, a decent light will have a metal body/heat sink that's unlikely to fit in the center without the tailgate contacting/almost contacting it.

At this time, I'm waiting for someone the find the Toyota PN.

If you looked at my post that had pictures, I obviously don't have a gen 3. Which is why I stated to take measurements and very dimensions. All I tried to point out is that a lot of these tailgate lightbars are not vehicle specific and more universal, so its important to find one that has dimensions that fit your available space.
Yes, you definitely don't want it contacting the tailgate when you open it. Hopefully there is enough space and some options. I very much like having that additional brake lights and turn indicators because a lot of folks aren't paying attention on the road.

I had some morimoto parts in the mod bin from other projects. The 5 lamp is stop lights that I have a modulator connected. Looks goofy, but if it keeps from be ended, all that matters.

The other bars are backup lamps I installed prior to relocating the fogs from front to back. They are heat sinked, about 5/16 in height. When the gate swings, about 1/8 clearance.

If the toyota PN is available, it will replace all the morimoto.

This would be an easier, similar solution. They have a harness where you don’t need to tap into anything.

It isn't really OEM as much as it something that Toyota Canada has produced, similar to what SET (Southeast Toyota) does here in the US for some of their PIO/DIO parts...

Ouch $400. Will need to see in person before I can justify the coin. Must be narrow to run below the spare tire service hole.

    Ryan: Thanks for the PN.

Emailed Jackson Toyota in Canada-quick response and provide the install directions. Looks simple enough. Now to ask when they go on sale:fingerscrossed:. Magnetic-post pics when you get it done:thumbsup:.

hmm... similar LED to the morimoto at 10,000 ft (~3KM) view. The morimoto go for $90 each, looks like the Toyota is three units. $400 not that far off.

You can order them now from Jackson Toyota I spoke to them this morning. Shipping looks like its a bit to come south of the border. I think they would look nice for sure

Lots of instructions. Looks like the electronics and ecu modual make the install a little involved - pnp but not what I was expecting. I will give others an opportunity to test it out over a few years. Maybe by then we will know how well it holds up and the price will drop 50%. Will be keeping an eye out for user reviews.

look at the Opt7 - I expected it to be a simple adapter plug (no ecm module) for the back side of the existing 7 pin connection. Makes me wonder if the Opt7 and others really don't have the same functionality as the Toyota specific one shown on this thread since they don't use a separate ecm module. Don't think @TundraTT had to add module to control features - only had to tap taillights.

Not sure why it has an ecu. Maybe it’s to prevent any codes for ones with sequential tails. But it’s still a simple install by the looks of it. I’m not sure why the ecu would dissuade someone from installing it.

edit: I bet the ecu also prevents trailer codes. I have a few things hooked up through 7pin harnesses (DD reverse kit, DD hitch pod, and VLED x-lp). Once in a while the dash will show trailer not detected or something similar.
