Yeah I would unplug it ASAP, since each module is registered to one owner, if is still connected to a remote starter you can get a new mycarcontrols unit and register it under your name.

Forgot to add, you can just unplug it from the harness, it would not cause any issues with the truck.

No offense but everyone is wrong it is a used vehicle and that is a GPS lock out so they can disable the vehicle when you don't make your vehicle payment I'm not sure how you bought the truck and if it was installed by the dealer that you bought it from but you have to be aware of that and sign a paper saying it's there or it's against the law but you cannot remove it if you signed a paper saying it's there and you finance a vehicle through them

Sorry folks for the late comment. Ive been gone all day since its my son's 13th Birthday. Im going to look at it closer tomorrow and trace where the end of the larger cable connects to. Then Im going to remove it. Here is another photo of the side of the unit. It does have a red led on the side that blinks red.
As for the dealer knowing about it. I dont think so...never signed a piece of paper about it and was never informed of such a device.
Also, the truck was never a fleet vehicle. When I purchased the truck it had only 35k miles on it for a 2015.

Md211 is right. The previous owner most likely had a title loan against the truck. If the previous owner missed a payment or skipped town, the financier could track down their collateral and repo. I ran into this exact same scenario with my 2010 DC. Bought from a private party, all was good at time of purchase. As I wired up a new head unit a year later, I came across that exact same device. I called the previous owner who gave me the run down, said the loan company (poorly) installed 3 transponders total but had no idea where. I dug deeper and found them all (I hope).
    1 behind the head unit
1 behind the driver kick panel
1 behind the overhead sunglass cubby

Good luck and congrats on the rad truck

It is a gps tracker. Some finance companies will not release funding until the tracker is installed and active. They do this in case you stop paying and have pulled the fuse for the factory on star or other system depending on make of vehicle. Usually these are sub prime lenders

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
The numbers do come up as a GPS tracker. You should definitely get it removed and search for others.
Remove it correctly to avoid the truck from not running.
Taking to dealership might be the way to go.

^This is correct, depending on your financial institution some banks require to install a GPS tracker and is removed only after you make the very last payment on your loan.

My friend bought a brand new GMC truck a few time ago, when he did the last payment the bank send the title and a letter to make an appointment at the dealership to get the tracking device removed from vehicle, WTF??? :eek2:. They install this devices to track the cars for a easy repo is something goes wrong. But they don’t use it for other purposes only if a repo is required.

You better ask your bank before removing this device from your truck to avoid any trouble with them.

This is the complete info for the device including user manual, installation guide, frequency etc

I stand by my first post...yes, it is a GPS tracker but also much more than that, connected to a remote start it will let you start/shutdown/lock/unlock and track your vehicle from anywhere in the world, it works with cell towers and wifi.

I know because I have the same unit installed on my vehicle, Installed by me, and it works great, I was able to start my vehicle from overseas 5k miles away. Also, the fact that it only has a red blinking light tells me that it's getting power but is not active, an active one like mine would have a solid red and solid green light.

The trackers you guys are talking about are more simple cheaper devices that only work as a GPS tracker, the module on the OP pics is an almost $200 device, it looks to me like something that it was installed by the previous owner and probable did not take it off.

I could be wrong but it all comes down to what is it connected to.

To clearify some comments. The device was never mentioned at the dealer. They didn't know about it. The previous owner must of installed it or had it installed.
I have excellent credit and was financed through my own choice. So there wasn't a way this device was installed ahead of time by "said" financial company.
Dmas, since you installed it on your own..where does the other end connect too?
I'm going to have to look at it later. This morning I'm going on a charity motorcycle ride. I'll update once I'm back and get to looking at the device again. Thanks all for your input.

If is only connected to power it means they took out the remote start unit, but it should be another box connected to it and that should be the remote start unit

Could it have been connected to your key fob, for remote start? Just curious if you checked or not.

I purchased my Tundra from a Ken Garff here in Salt Lake. One of there "fees" they try and get you with when buying a used vehicle from them is an included GPS tracker with a monitoring app and 5 year subscription for $1200! I was able to talk the sale guy out of this service, but apparently they left the device installed. When I was installing a remote starter yesterday I came upon this exact device behind my driver side kick panel.
