I was really looking forward to purchasing this tune...however the dealership TSS required update is a killer for me. I am lifted and cannot get a dealership to perform the update. Any help?

 

You can't pay them to do it? What about this techstream business...? @Wynnded can you get this type of fix from techstream?

 

I was told by 3 dealerships here, that a notice from Toyota to NOT perform TSS updates on lifted trucks. It's silly...the damn system works perfect. Radar cruise, and the "oh shit I need to stop red screen"

 

This update is required, but they won't do it on lifted trucks? I would look at them and say, "You're telling me that you are being told to NOT do a required update on a safety feature?" ....Now that I think about it, the lawyers would probably just say that the engineers say that the system is not designed to work outside given parameters in which your truck now exists due to the lift, or some such. I'm guessing that they would use TS to perform such an update, it's Toyota's software, but I don't know which minimum version would be required nor where to obtain the update file.

The only other thing that comes to mind at the moment is if only there were a Toyota technician who does side work and would be able to make it happen. I don't know if they're able to use TS in that situation though. Login and usage records these days.

Yes. Make a connection. I have this and even get tires for my son’s Tahoe in the Toyota tire sale. Just need to make a relationship. They will work for you.

 

Looking for some real world reviews on NA trucks.

Opinions on:
Gear locking feature.
Power delivery.
Shift feel/accuracy.

I agree. It’s crazy how each dealership is so different. Mine is lifted 5.5 inches and when I finally took it in to get the oil changed, they insisted on updating it. I told them it worked perfect and I would be beyond irritated if the update changed that. He assured me it wouldn’t and it’s worked perfectly so far (about 1000 miles).

 

You can read my reviews starting on page 22. The only testing I have not done is MPG. Not yet. Still enjoying the torque and power.

 

I'd like to know more about the trans tuning and improvements. On previous Ford trucks I've had tuned, the trans tuning and improving the drive-by-wire response are what made the biggest drive ability difference over stock for me. Is shift firmness added? I'm not looking for harsh racecar shift, but getting rid of the lazy, soft, sloppy for firm, crisp changes.

Flashed the truck today. So far I'm happy. Going to run it for a few days and then see what extras I want on the tune.

 

Were you asked to send in logs?

 

I was not, but I'm naturally aspirated. I'm not sure if the logging is just for those who are supercharged or not.

 

Ah okay. My truck is N/A as well and he asked me to send logs. Maybe he has what he needs for your ECU, maybe there isn't as much data for mine and that's why he asked me. I kinda thought he was trying to get logs from everyone, but guess not. Thanks!

I would expect you would need to .. to be sure the tune fits your truck the best.

 

My truck is stock power wise. All I have is King coilovers, of course don't affect performance. I genuinely just wanted a different shift schedule and love the idea of gear lock.

But thank you for the advice. I'm sure that if I need to log it, Matt will tell me. Now my Stage 4 Jetta TDI...I need to log that and make sure I'm good. Boost is an entirely different animal.

I'm guessing eventually we will have an application like the Tacomas that allow us to download files as we choose and flash? That will be so awesome.

 

@Cuban11182 I’m NA as well and he asked for me to send him logs in the email that he sent with the tune. I’m sure he wants to look at your data logs as well

 

unless your truck is bone stock and you want an 87 tune we need logs

Funny. Coincidentally, those are the only ones that I've logged and sent, until I can burn off the fuel that I have in the tank and get 91 in it. Then I'll do the same as I did with the 87 tune.
