I know this is an old post, but do you know who's done 35s on a 3" lift? Is it documented on here?

Not members here that I know of. Long ago in different forums at least 5 guys did it. Actually I think @toyotech2016 did it. It involves surgery and isn't for the faint of heart.

Did a little tire analysis this morning. I have been considering going with the BFG KO2 for a while now as my next tire. While browsing around I saw the Falken M/T01, a very nice mud tire at a low price point, lower than the cost of the KO2 even.

I would save roughly $90 on the set if I go Falken, but they are heavier and they are likely to yield 1.5 mpg less than the KO2 based on some quick research. I took that figure and went against 40k miles at $4 per gallon (CA) and over the life of the tire I would pay just under $800 more in gas with the Falken. Plus the KO2 is rated as a 50k mile tire, so I get 25% more life there which really tips the scales.

Guess I will keep looking at KO2 and see if I can order a set up. Amazing what a difference that makes, nearly the cost of a new set of tires.

I'm glad you brought this up. I've been surprised at peoples tire choices since I joined this forum. I used to do more offroading when I was younger but I've been out of the game for a while. I thought K02's were regarded as the best but several guys here are running tires I've never heard of. When I was researching all terrain tires last year I ended up selecting the Hankook Dynapro AT-M. I really couldn't find many bad reviews on this tire. I've had them on my truck 13 months now and they are holding up nicely.

Not trying to steer you away from the K02's as I think they are probably the better tire but these were nearly 50% less. I ended up getting them from Discount Tire.

I looked at those, glad to hear about less expensive options. I'm planning to get my truck back into the dirt this year, that's why I have been thinking BFG.

I have run Hankook on my other car, a street tire of course, but haven't had much complain on those.

Here is the cost analysis if anybody is interested. CPG is cost per gallon.

Interesting analysis. Are most people reporting 40K miles out of each tire? I never seem to get what the tire is rated for.

BFG KO2 "DT" is rated at 50k but I went with 40k to be fair, knowing there is potentially a 25% bonus lifespan.

I got about 70k out of Yoko AT-S and almost 50k out of Mickeys ATZ. Depends on abuse I guess.

Cutting out sheet metal from your body to make clearance for big tires, then patching up what you removed.

Used a heat gun to get the 19 year old crusting away TRD stickers off. Ordered some new ones and now have to deal with getting all the old nasty glue off.

Have you looked at Falken AT3's?? They are a great tire and snow rated.

Awesome! Thanks a lot guys! I guess I'm going to have to see about joining Expedition Portal as well. I've got some build threads to read through now.

    I'd like to go with a 315/75R16 (~34 1/2") on a 3" lift.

Edit: Now if only I could fit the spare in the stock location...haha

Re-gearing with those bigass tires? I can barely make it over a parking curb with 285/75/r16.

Going to attempt with goo gone, and if all else fails probably going to just hit it with a rag and some 87 octane.

Was checking out the tire thread and saw this for a great apples to oranges to peaches comparison on the same truck.

lol really? You got a LSD?

I figure I will eventually. If it’s doing well enough without a regear other stuff may come first. If I end up pulling a trailer around then I’m sure I’ll be on it sooner.

Yes on the LSD. I tow/haul occasionally and the truck does well in those regards. Its those mall curbs that seem to be a problem. I think my gears are 3.91? The tires are Michelin E-rated Defenders. Great tires. I couldn’t imagine going bigger without major gearing/transmission work.

I would recommend regearing if you're going with that large of a tire. It's more then a power issue it's also to keep your shift points correct. Not to mention regaining lost MPG.

Everything looks good so far. We’ll see how they perform once installed. Keith gave me a good tutorial over the phone on the day of purchase a few weeks back. I’ll call him again to let him know they’ve been received and follow up on install q’s one last time just to make sure nothing is overlooked. Stoked and nervous to get these in.

I appreciate the input guys. It's all early days of planning for me. Now you've got me digging into gear ratio info. I guess the early models (4-speeds) have quite a high first gear (2.804) as opposed to the 5-speed's 3.52. Overall it looks like the 5-speed would deal a lot better with oversize tires.
