I checked both sides and it seemed fine, but the crackling was present on the old tweeters as well. I had bought some OEM ones off of eBay to replace the first ones and used that harness connector for the JBLs, just in case. All 3 crackled at higher decibels is seems. But then again, I'm a major novice with this area.

And I'll gladly take you up on that. Ill shoot you a message when I get all the supplies and we can figure something out that works best for us both. I'd much rather have the the master with me while it's done.

Edit: it seems that the previous owner did upgrade the lower door speakers but not the headunit. I'm hoping they didn't screw around with anything ina bad way.

IIRC, the DC with JBL has each speaker wired directly, and they’re all 2ohm. Chances are the woofer the PO installed is probably 4ohm which … who knows how the OEM JBL amp is going to respond to being under-loaded at half the amperage it was designed to expect.

There are a few things possible. It could be PO replaced the woofers thinking they were causing the crackling. It could be he replaced the woofers with different amperage than what’s expected and it’s causing extra noise somehow. Or it could be the amp is already borked up, and generating noise, and that’s why the PO swapped the woofers. It could be the PO did something really f’n stupid with how they installed the woofers, maybe they wire-nutted the connections or something similarly stupid, and a nut fell off. You never can tell.

Chances are they didn’t touch anything in the dash. I wouldn’t be too worried there.

I took those woofers out just to check the back and it seems that the PO didn't screw around with the harness from what I could tell. But then again, I don't really know much of what I'm looking at on a deeper inspection, ha. I'm hoping that it's just the headunit that's going kaput.

They are JBL branded woofers but I didn't get the model off of it when I was tinkering back there.

Do you have resistors on the tweeters? Are they in place?

I do believe that they did come with resistors. I'm not a smart man with this stuff but the tweeters do have a "package" wrapped up in-between the tweeter and the connecting wire section. This is what I'm talking about

Boys I hit the rust belt lotto. Went into bleeding the rear brakes expecting to have to replace both wheel cylinders and lines because rust.

A little heat and the bleeders backed right out. An expected day long job took me about 2 hours.

Did find out my carrier bearing is trashed though.

Bleeder caps do wonders for keeping out rust (at least I’ve noticed). Just a PITA paying $2-3/each for them.

Yeah this'll be the 2nd one. I replaced it shortly after I bought it in 2017, just didn't realize it was bad or I'd have ordered one from RockAuto when I ordered the rest of the stuff.

Pretty sure these ones have been missing the whole time I've owned it. Didn't even try them just put the new ones in.

I go nowhere without my 3" drop hitch with 2" ball on it in the receiver. Saved me too many times from rear end damage.

I really should be doing that. You can see by the bend in the 4 prong that I've already been tagged once.

Bought one of these to replace my wife’s after it went missing in a parking lot. Got stolen again at an Air BnB in Tybee. Replaced it again. Got stolen again. Gave up.

The police can fine you in my state for having that without a vehicle in tow. Not that I've seen it happen but it does go against your record and add at least a couple points.

Yep. Anything to add points and increase your insurance here for the next 6 years. They got rid of state regulated car insurance which falsely leads you to believe the rates went down. Well they did, but only if you never get a ticket or in an at fault accident.

Trailer hitch, to load or not to load?

my hotrod had a European hitch on it, weren't no removing it. I've come out & seen my hitch ball imprint in the front plate of the car behind me. :)
you get rear-ended with the ball in & it ups the chance of bent frame.
knew a guy, coming out of a bar, dark parking lot, walked right into someone's drop hitch. Right to the shin. When he finished 1-foot-dancing he removed the hitch & threw it through the back window.

Pros & cons to leaving your hitch loaded.

This happened to me when I was 16. My friend Sean saw it, got pissed off by the situation, ripped both their side mirrors off.

I’ve since taken two to the shins, smarts both times, but after how many times I’ve taken skateboards and kicks to the shins over the years, it was just an “ow”, not much else to speak of.
