They did not change out the valve stems when they put the new tires on.
spare tire has been my nightmare scenario. She’s 25 years old. Been cruising the marketplace for a used 285/75/16 and haven’t scooped one up yet. Let’s see if it gets me home. It’s only 25 miles :eek2:

Yeah, I re-mounted the gold Methods back on the truck today so I can separate off the Wildpeaks. Only to find "I was right". I told the youngest my rear driver tire looked low, but it was weird, there was no TPMS warning being reported.

Sure enough, there's a friggin nail in the tire and it only had 20lb of air in it. Also explains why bumps were nicer these last few drives. But now I've gotta patch that tire before I sell it, which isn't a problem since I can patch from inside, but still sucks b/c that was one of the newer pair.

Pics to come of the truck with gold wheels and brushed stainless mouthpiece, maybe tomorrow.

And now I get the added task of trying to figure out why clearing out the TPMS codes for two of my sensors now has the truck failing to report when my tire pressures are low. Which is good news for someone who is tired of seeing the warnings, but bad news if you want to know when your tires are low!

Thanks for reminding me I needed to check my front passenger tire pressure. It was 40psi when I left Merus and 15psi last week. Filled it to 45psi a week ago, today it was 25psi. Just topped it off again. Will take it to discount tire in the morning for a free patch. I took a decent chunk out of it on a rock in the canyon. I bet that's where the slow leak is.

We shoulda loaded it up for the MERUS weekend. Would have saved you guys a lot of cooler space.

The bed was about 2/3 full with 2" of rain on the way the next 72 hours. Decided to not put that stress on my fresh suspension.

    Truck is pissin' bro

Nah. I pulled the Rocktrix so I could get the 285s separated at a cheaper local shop for re-mounting later. I'll list the tires, and pull the TPMS sensors from the Rocktrix, clean the bullshit wheel-weight-massacre Discount Tire applied to the Rocktrix wheels (they'll rip 'em off anyway, at least I can clean the mess before they apply more), then carry the truck and wheels up to Discount Tire and have them re-mount the Mickey 275s and the Denso TPMS sensors into the Rocktrix. Then I'll clean up the Methods and probably sell those to someone locally. And I need to sell the 285s and a set of Acura allow 6-spokes I've got sitting out back with Bridgestones on 'em. Hopefully I can net ~$1,300 - 1,500 for all of it. I could use the extra $$$ padding.

I feel ya. The 8 months I was unemployed was rough. Luckily I didn't have to sell stuff because finally I got hired right before I ran out of money. I sold a bunch of stuff I didn't want to sell on a previous unemployed bout. Had to sell my TRD supercharger I was going to put on my Tacoma. That hurt.

@shifty` so you ended up liking the 275/70/17s over the 285/70/17s? Due more to overall size or the actual tires? I think the 285s were wildpeak 3s and the 275s were the legend exps, correct?

Correct on the tires. The Wildpeak 285s rub too f'n much. I need to buy new inner fender liners now, completely rubbed thru the fender liner at the pinch welds and started eating pinch welds, which cut lines in my front tires from reversing and grabbing it. There's another $250 out the door on liners (I'll hammer the pinch weld down when I replace them. AND those front tires were already at half tread, but they still grabbed pinch weld, and were noisy af due to less tread. Aggravatingly loud.

While I accept I could've possibly aligned out, added some caster to address the rub situation, visually I'm not seeing much difference in the tire size, and I plan on lowering the truck back down about an inch up front in the near future, so I'm sticking with the 275s. It's the best in-between size for me, I think. And waaaaaay less road-noisey.

I feel like that standard practice.

The PO of my truck ran the original spare for a few thousand miles.
(My truck the day I bought it)
    received_286654733050671.jpg
Never blew out on me if that makes you feel any better.

I'm also sure you're aware that running that on the rear axle can make that diff get real hot.

What amount does it have to drop to show a low tire light? Do the later first gens still call for an absurdly low pressure? Think my truck calls for 26psi on the front.

Disappointingly, A340E transmissions here locally are scarce. I ended up ordering a unit from California with 72K on it. It arrived by freight this morning.

She got mad at me for not driving her. With all of the diagnostic stuff we've taken in at the shop, I've been driving customer cars home for months now. I've put about 50 miles on her in the last 3 months.

Damn. How much did that one set you back? I think you can buy new ones from the Toyota site for around $2,750 based on a screenshot someone else posted. Seemed like a fair deal.

I feel like the actual number is in the manual, it's like 10% or 20% below whatever the configured value is set to. And I believe (been a while since I read manual) you set the number value by holding in the reset button under the driver side dash until you see the TPMS light flash, and the TPMS will log the current PSI during the next trip after, creating the baseline.

But I've never changed my baseline value, and the rear driver tire was sitting at 20psi when I pulled it, nail sticking out, fully visible between two treads. Tread depth on that tire is down about 20% below new, head of the nail is flush with the tread. It'll be an easy pull.

Anyway, whatever I did to clear the TPMS codes must've cleared TPMS monitor's ability to report on the tire. Once I get unmounted/remounted again, I'll hafta pop in the OBDLink MX+ and fish around, see if I can reset the TPMS monitor and/or reset the values.

The rebuild kit is $1600. New is not currently available and reman is $3700. I paid $1800 including core, shipping and tax. 3y/30k warranty parts and labor. I'll keep my old trans and maybe rebuild it one day or not.

I made the fateful statement “I never get flats in my truck”. I am now paying the penance for such a foolish comment. I know better.
