Working on changing out the brakes. I have the Autozone top end pads and rotors, but the rotors warped and pads are over half worn at less than 2 yrs. Installing Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors with carbon fiber ceramic pads.
Fronts are done, just giving my back and knee a break.
    20241103_130116.jpg

Edit: steering wheel shake gone and my truck no longer dances when I hit the brakes.

Worth the price and effort once all said and done. They will last much longer.

Hope so. Got the back installed and did the break in.
Wasn't too much effort though. Pads and rotors haven't even been on for 2 years, so everything came apart easily. I do need to adjust my parking brake.

What gauge did you use? I’m thinking 18-20g

I used 22 gauge. Originally planned on 16 but it was to thick to shape with a hammer. Here's a before and after having it rhino lined.

    Changed both rear wheel bearings.

$850 lighter in the pocket, but no more grinding/clicking. Did fuck up a speed sensor, so I got that additional expense as well.

Changed out both primary 02 sensors. Noticed driver side was real hard to get out. Some threads on sensor were broken. Header bung threads looked OK. But next time I have to pull the LT header will weld in a new O2 bung.

Added a USB charger and 12V outlet to the bed. The power is constant so I can charge cameras and drones and such when the truck is off. The switch turns the outlets off so they won't drain the battery unnecessarily.

I have an AGM battery with tons of extra power, and I have an automatic voltage cutoff device under the hood to cut off power to the bed before the battery discharges enough to cause problems starting.

    Backside:

    IMG_0728.jpg

I ordered a higher powered USB-C charger for the open hole. I'll clean up the wiring after I install it, or at least that's what I'm telling myself now.

I also replaced the tailgate opener buttons... The small buttons I used worked great until they got jammed, and getting jammed on broke both the actuators that open the tailgate.

    IMG_0705.jpg

So I replaced the buttons with bigger more durable buttons... But these are goofy looking. If anyone has a good waterproof momentary button that would work in this spot, please tell me!

    IMG_0706.jpg

And a shot of me replacing the burned out tailgate actuators:

This came out really clean looking. Thanks for the detailed write up on the install. I also really like your bungees with attachment holes through them. Are those the really durable bungees that don't over stretch?

    Thanks!

I bought the bungees 2.5 years ago and they still seem great. I use them all the time and it's really handy to have them ready to go in the bed.

After 60k miles (59,810 to be exact) of service, my Falken AT3Ws were replaced by a set of AT4Ws. Here's to the same experience with the new model

Do you live with four seasons? I'm going to be due to replace tires and my bfg's do great in the snow and I've heard mixed reviews on AT3's snow traction. I live in an area that receives 300" of snow on avg.

Not anywhere near what you experience but I wouldn't have an issue running them in the Mtns. We got a 14" storm a couple of winters ago and I made my 110mi commute easily. As you said though, you know the BFGs will do the job & I know I'd have a hard time choosing something else.

What it really comes down to is a lot of spring run off for me. So I get to play in the snow before it melts.

If I recall you run Wildpeak's right? I've heard they have great wet traction, just want to see the same good reviews of the snow traction. And since winter is basically 5 plus months long here I need tires to perform in snow.

I grew up in KY and moved to the Sierras for a few years when I was in my 20s. Close to 600" fell my first winter there, boy did it open my eyes.

I'm new to the second gen platform and I always had the bfg's on my first gen and also had good milage reports from that truck. With my second gen I put the bfg's on without even considering other tires and I'm about to head into my third winter and the tires already seem like they are way past half their life and I only have 22k on them. So that's why I'm considering other options.

I ran duratracs when I lived in a climate with more snow on my Tacoma, only 260” per year. I got wildpeaks on my Tundra last year, they work just as well in the snow and have less road noise. But I think the trac width and tire width have a lot to do with traveling on unplowed roads.

I've only got 15k on my '21, so it still has the OE Michelins. I've only ran the Michelins on my '08; they are great in the rain (on both rigs), but the pack up pretty quick in the snow...

Casey has run Wildpeaks for a while now up here and says they have great snow traction (pretty sure those are AT3s)...

I'll be putting Mickey T's Baja Boss on the '21 when the OE tires wear out...

That is a Monster year to miss out on. I recall the 09-10 season, Vail recorded 512" and it was the best season I've ever had. I was still young enough to crush pow all day, and day after day back then. 512" of light fluffy stuff is comparable to double that for the Sierra cement that stacks up out on the west coast.

I totally understand then. Yesterday they measured my take-offs at 2-3/32nds and like I said, right at 60k miles. I religiously rotated and balanced every 7k miles and had a front end alignment done every time. That $150 lifetime alignment package paid for itself after the 2nd one. Same package is $220 now

I updated the remote start/alarm system, the old one way system left me wondering if it was running or not if I couldn't see the truck. It also wouldn't work if I was standing in my living room looking at the truck. Something about this house blocks RF.

I replaced the window weatherstrip. Here are the part numbers.

This video explains the process, it's quick and painless.
