Forgot to post here but finally installed my grip pro last weekend! Bought it black Friday of 2023 lol... time really got away from me there. Install went well. Biggest challenge was removing the carrier bearings since I didn't have the right tool. One axle slipped in like butter, the other fought me for a couple hours... had to file in between the splines and take the flap wheel to the tops a little bit and even then I still had to hammer it in.

Thought I fixed my noise. Turns out the new replacement Dayco pulley (left) screamed louder then the used 144k one. Returned it as defective and ordered up a Gates idler (right). Looks and feels way beefier

I'm not sure what it is about some of our rigs, but they don't seem to care for a lot of the aftermarket parts when it comes to the basic wear and tear items....

My '08 did the same w/non-OE belts, pulleys and tensioners....

You may just want to bite the bullet and and order an OE one from one of the discount Toyota parts dealers!

Interestingly enough, dayco is the OE supplier for that. Belt, idler and tensioner. On the second gens anyways.

Changed the oil in my '08 today.

I was this old when I discovered this hack.

Who knew the engine cover had a second use?!

Had a very interesting run in with my local dealership today, so I got a coupon for an oil change at $60 w/ filter. Now normally I do it my self but that can run me about 75-80 depending on what deals the local parts stores got. So in this case I said screw it I don’t have shit to do today anyways I’ll let them deal with it.
I just picked it up and the craziest thing. These guys said my brake reservoir cap was missing and that my starter is going out lol
First off I feel like the mechanic probably was checking my fluid and lost it but no harm no foul cause they replaced it on the house.
As for my starter, this is new cause even in the coldest of the cold my truck has started no problem. In fact I’ve never ever even had the slightest hint my started was going bad, and I’ve had some cars in the past have the starter go out.
Do you guys think I may have gotten a rookie mechanic? It’s my understanding they do unplug the batteries to work on cars/trucks. Could he have not known that our Gen tundras have issues starting after unplugging and then plugging back in the battery? I know there’s a way around that but still.
And lastly, as I was driving away my slip indicator was on and the auto LSD wasn’t working. I got home and turned my truck off and then back on and it went away. Should I be concerned about that?

Did he take it for a test drive - or a JOY ride? That would be my concern but if it's not broke don't fix it. Go talk to service manager
in polite voice and discuss the comments and results. See if he discusses sensibly or tries to run blocker on the technician

Was your truck off when you picked it up? Or did they give it to you when it was running?

did you turn off traction control and then enable the auto lsd?

how long was the lsd on for?
If I remember right the lad can overheat if used for too long and it’ll cause it to not work

I just changed my own starter this week. That job sucks! It took me around 5 hours to do the swap. I have my own hoist. No way that job is getting done in your driveway.

I don't know what a dealer gets for that job, but I bet it's north of $1500.

That dealer must be short on revenue to offer to do that job.

For what it's worth, I had no indication the starter was checking out. Hopped in the truck one morning and got the dreaded click, no crank. Test the battery, it was 100%, tried again, no joy, just a click.

New starter and it's starting fine.

They just trying to upsell you because they got techs standing around drinking coffee and scratching their balls(or boobs).

Well I spoke with my service guy I usually get to have some clarification. Now he backed up the other guys but man looks are worth a thousand words lol. He said don’t worry about it right now, I’ll take that as the other guys tried upselling me (not mad/surprised at all)
They’re charging roughly $3200, I had to ask after it was all said and done cause I was curious to know. I looked up a couple videos on how to replace this gen tundra’s starter and I don’t want to sound cocky but man does it looks easy breezy lol my first car was an 07 civic and replacing the starter was my first “big” repair. Took me 8hrs in a drive way on stands, had I not been in twig like stature I don’t think my arm would’ve fit without removing some parts to get to the starter. At least with the tundra we have more wiggle room.

Oh and the auto LSD may have been switched on prior to pick up, I noticed a bunch of my switches such as dome lights were messed with. They had it running from the moment they “could” get it to start till I got there. No idea how long that was and my odometer was only up a mile

Lol. It's not easy-breezy unless you have done them many times.

I thought the same when I watched my several vids.

I tried every shortcut on youtube. All a bunch of crap. I removed the frame side motor mount bolts and put a piece of wood under the oil pan and jacked the motor up to get to all the exhuast manifold bolts. you will have to take the dipstick tube out, so get another O-ring. once you have the manifold out it's right there.

This is a perfect time to install your Solid Motor Mounts and Long Tubes.

I had to retire my old Top Gun grill guard. It was starting to rust and flake off the powder coat, it had lost a couple of bolts, and I discovered one of the supports had popped a weld and fallen completely off of the truck. I liked the center framework, but I didn't like the design of the wings out over headlights. I tried contacting the manufacturer through the website by emailing (multiple times) and calling (multiple times) posted on their website, with no response to either. So I started shopping for something similar.

I got a Barricade HD grill guard. It is not nearly as heavy or as heavily built as the old one. I really like design of the headlight wings as opposed to the old ones.

    IMG_8441.jpg

This is much less a grill guard as it is a decorative light mount. (Lighting project in the works).

I removed the transmission on my truck (thought it had a problem, it didn't....) and yeah getting the starter out was a PITA!

Backed into a post. Somehow the mirror went together unlike Humpty Dumpty, and the signal arrow still works!
Can someone tell me the best source for replacement glass lens with signal embedded??

These are next on my list (for my SR5)
    https://spottermirror.com/p/toyota/tundra/2007-2021-toyota-tundra-spotter-mirror-with-turn-signal/
My work has me in the city several times a week, and often during rush hour. Blindspot mirrors are useful for me (though I still give my spine a good stretch/flexibility workout because I still quick peek over the shoulder). The flashers are just an added bonus for me. I may or may not have to do some wiring. A Ltd or Platinum should be good to go.

Not sure if that is of interest to you or not. I have no idea what a Limited OEM replacement mirror goes for.

Nice! Literally this minute placed the order for replacement on Amazon. $58 CDN. Not worried about the blind spot. Nice idea but oh well.

Did you pull it and rebuild or did you just replace it with a whole different transmission?

when I pulled it the first time I replaced the torque converter with a rebuilt Shows Transmission Parts one, I should've gone oem... it failed about 2 years later

I haven't pulled it yet but I'll order a toyota one through the shop and replace it one weekend. I was already debating on putting a new unit in instead of messing with the tc again and frying the reverse clutch just tells me exactly what ima have to do
