Not really sure how Toyota decided this but it seems like GVWR is random. Each mode code has its own GVWR and the same bed and cab configuration will have lower GVWR for lighter trims. It’s odd.

Marketing. If they can show a minimal loss in payload or GVWR for the upper trims, who wouldn't upgrade? If it showed that you lost a couple hundred pounds going to a limited/plat/1794, people might just stick to an SR5 out of utility.

Just playing devil's advocate from a cynical POV. I don't actually know.

    GVWR - 7230 lbs
    Curb Weight - 5700 lbs
    Payload (calc) - 1530 lbs
    Payload (sticker) - 1390 lbs

I used CAT scales at a local truck stop. Full tank, 2 floor mats (none in rear). Nothing else but owners manuals in glove box.

When I went to the local dump and they weighed my Capstone (stock):
Gross weight (with too knuckleheads in the cab) 6620lbs. So figure the Capstone weighs 6220lbs.

    GVWR sticker: 7670lbs

    Not much to leave desired.

As I stated on the other recent payload thread, I've never given payload capacity much thought. I assume the factory numbers are conservative for liability purposes.

For me, an over-loaded truck is more of a "I know it when I see it" thing. Like when I hauled this 2500# pallet of landscape bark home from 1-1/2 hours away in my 2015 Tundra. It felt like I was popping a wheelie the whole time, but it never felt dangerous. I've had even heavier loads in my Tundras many times.

I'm not trying to be flippant. If you're the type to worry about things like this, there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

Sticker states never to exceed 1330 lbs of cargo combined (people and stuff.)

A bit off topic, but does anyone know how much it costs to add the OEM advanced package to a standard model? That's really the only option my truck doesn't have that I wish it did.

not sure what you mean, do you mean afterwards? The advanced package is only on the platinum/1794

if you mean just the air auto leveling rear, then Im not sure on that on teh lower models, different package.

I have the 1794, but it didn't come with the load leveling air suspension in the rear. That's what I'd like to add, if possible.

    O, I see.

ya, aftermarket at this point would be the way to go I think, trying to retro all the OEM stuff would be tough and pricey

Thanks. I'm actually trying to find a solution that will handle the extreme washboard conditions we get on the dirt county roads around our place. The standard Gen 3 suspension on my truck doesn't handle it very well at all. The rear end will often bounce around, kicking left or right, creating a sketching driving experience. My 2015 1794 non-TRD handled it much better. It's really the only complaint I have with the suspension on my new truck. Otherwise, it handles better than my 2015 in all other driving conditions.

ya, too bad you didn't get the advanced package on your 1794, AVS can solve most ride situations IMO.

maybe some better shocks or something, that have a faster bump and rebound to handle the washboards

3300 miles on the truck and they placed a nee load adjustment sticker on the inner panel due to a recall REDUCING total causing sheen 32lbs. Now the truck sits at 1298 lbs total passenger and cargo capability!! Lousy. We shall see.

Shit my wife's 2017 rav4 has an adjustment sticker on hers for 12 lbs lmao must be the all weather floor Matt's. I don't worry about it, now when I had 2k on the bed and I get pulled over then I'll worry about it but I only do that locally and would never go any further that over loaded.
The past f150 was 1666# and when it was down to a 1/2 tank it was unbearable to drive as the rear-end was so stiff. Don't miss the payload.....

Here a pic before the truck was started! It was on the bump stops.

It looks like I’m at 1,590 lbs. with the 60 lb running boards I added. I can live with that. I mean, more would be better but I’m glad my truck weighs more than an F150.

The door stickers say 1380-46 lbs.
