I had the same impression recently.
Only 2 days ago I took a lot of my truck's interior apart to run dashcam+detector wiring. Plastic body/dash panels felt paper thin (thinner and flexier than on my 2017 for sure). Behind dash, the framing/brackets seemed as thin as they can get away with-everything flexes. Door panels? They scratch when you look at them the wrong way.
Ran extra horns under the hood; mid brace on the radiator where I mounted 2 of my Hellas flexes so much that I honestly laughed to myself when I was 'adjusting' their position by hand.
Take a look at the metal bracket(s) holding your battery in place...borderline pointless and as weak as anything else.

Which all brings to mind what you mentioned above - how well are we all going to fair in case of an accident?
Is all of this really calculated into crumble/crash zones and designed specifically with "safety-first" in mind, or just cost saving measures disguised as "green/sound/efficiency/etc" measures?

    My bet's on the latter.

Imagine buying a truck and then being upset that your fender well's get dirty lol. Anyways to the OP: If it really bothers you that much go buy a carpet brush and some soap and it will all come out. Almost every new vehicle now days has the carpet/ felt liner in the fender wells..

Remember this thread when/if you run over a deer/dog/cat/yeti and your blood-red wheel wells smell like death till the end of the Universe.....and you're on your knees on your driveway, scrubbing alien guts off your exterior carpet!
    :p
(exaggerating, in case it isn't obvious to some here)

You completely misunderstood what he was saying. There is a member named @Toyota who has not been on since 2017. He was not making a slight at you in anyway. You tagged that member, and it was being commented that @Toyota would get the email notification about your post. Don't be so defensive. Everyone here isn't out to get you, or even disagree with you.

I have a friend who got a Bronco Sport and first trip wheeling had the fabric liner get completely ripped out of one of the wheel wells. I think it's an absolutely retarded design.

I'm thinking there will be WeatherTech rear mud flap attachments in the works as we speak. I agree with the OP and others here, and even if he didn't notice it, what a stupid idea for a mud flap material. o_O

    What @GODZILLA said.

I just thought it was funny that I assumed you thought you were tagging Toyota the corporation but instead tagged Toyota the user with 3 posts who hasn’t been on this site in 5 years. Now he could get an email notification and wonder why he should care about your fender liners.

    Welcome back.

There is a base SR here at work. Just checked and it is also carpet. So your SOL. I also can’t believe there no mud flaps. Toyota really skimmed on part for the whole truck line up and to sell it at a higher price.

Rip them out. The metal behind them is far easier to clean. All that plastic does is trap leaves and organic crap anyway. I've been liner free for 12 years now and my truck is fine. Live a little.

Your right and I'm entitled to vent about people that buy a truck and drive off the lot. Then go on the internet to vent on something they bought that way.

No offense (I shouldn't even bother replying to you any way), but are you perhaps a Toyota engineer who designed this crap?
You seem to take my gripe with a fender well liner quite to your little heart.

Perhaps it's time to let it go (especially getting personal against other ppl ), otherwise both of us will end up in timeouts, or worse.
I get it, you're a rabid fan of "as seen on TV" or in this case "as designed by the gods themselves."
Forgive us mortals for questioning some design and material choices...publicly...on a public forum.

    Farewell.

Show me when I got personal with other ppl. I'm a rabid fan of knowing what I purchase ahead of time and not bash on a truck after the fact on something it has. Do you purchase everything the same way. Buy it and then complain about it like it wasn't there before you signed on the line.

I've been warning yooz people for years about CAFE and how it will show up in the strangest of places.

And now just wait. Since "the people in charge" have just dramatically INCREASED CAFE requirements.

You mean like Toyota went "green" all the way back with old Tacomas, then moved onto 4Runners, and now to Tundras...........and never told anyone?

This thread is quite amusing and enjoyable.

OP @99ways2die had a 2017 and liked it. The short comings can be fixed, the reliability and reputation of Toyota is present and accounted for, OP is happy

OP buys new 22' and discovers felt lined "upgrade" to his fender wells, to which he has no liking for and cannot comprehend why Toyota would do this to him and his new truck.
So OP creates a thread to admit, and openly discuss new issue with wonderful Tundra community forum. Opinions are thrown down and explanations are touted. One member ( @Chrlsone ) decides to make his stink bomb opinion the "only opinion that matters" and tries repeatedly to derail and sink the OPs thread. Why? If you, @Chrlsone don't like his method of buying a 70k truck and then having a gentleman's discussion about what he feels is a issue, because you say he should have, before he bought his truck, researched out and documented all possible foreseeable future issues so as to not "complain" about them... Then STOP READING HIS THREAD and go troll something else.
No one is telling you @Chrlsone that you can't have your opinion, but don't complain about someone else's and insist that their opinion or actions are stupid because you think so. Look in the mirror my friend, we all have a Darkside. Sometimes, like this one, just let it go ..

    Oh yeah, welcome back OP

What is foreseeable future issue about something that came on the truck. I guess the plastic liner feel off and the carpet liner was exposed. IT CAME THAT WAY and isn't like the wastegate, door trim coming off, or axle coming out. A simple walk-around before buying would and it could have been discussed with the dealer but probably hasn't even complained to the dealer. It amuses me how someone can spend 70k on something and not check it out.
Sounds like your telling me I can't have an opinion.
