Ah. Honestly, I'd probably do what I do at my place then; eat leftovers or get some canned soup that heats in the MW easily. Good for staying warm, generally a lower calorie count if you avoid chowders, and easy to clean up the bowl afterward. For the occasional treat meal I'd take in an appliance. I've brought my Foreman Grill in to cook some steaks when I'm on nights, and it works well enough.

I would say since it's an optional item (assuming you are talking about a outside grill), the employees would need to buy it!

Both my EMS jobs, one being a municipality, required us to buy a grill if we wanted it, as it wasn't a necessity for living.

    Best of luck!

Just my .02. If the grill stays at your job then the employer pays for it. If the work fridge breaks they buy a new one so what is different about a grill? Otherwise you and a few of your coworkers can pitch in and get one and only those who pitched in can use it. Petty but hey.

I think "industry standard" is a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. Anything else would be on an as-need justified basis. If there are situations where workers have to be there for longer shifts and have to eat more than just a brown-bag lunch, i.e. sleep there due to extended on-call shifts etc., then a grill could be justified and the employer should be able to find a line in the budget for it. It can be classified as a gas stove vs grill if it has to.

I am fortunate to work for a private company. We have a big $2,000 gas grill and an offset wood smoker here in the back yard. The smoker is on a trailer and employees can take it home for private use when they want to. But, the company takes such good care of us in general, if they would for instance say everyone needs to pitch in $100 ea. for a grill, everyone here would gladly do it.

GoFundMe seems to be the new beggers choice for people.

I'm pretty sure it's not set up for organizations with multiple employees making $100k+, to fund their BBQ lunches.

I don't think they can require you as an employee to pitch in on a community item like that.

We just have to pitch in for food, which even that is annoying when it’s a departmental type party

The "company" needs to ante up and buy a new grill. You aren't being petty, the company is.

Another thought, do they make you pay for your desk chair, office supplies, custodial services, etc.?

If the employees decide to buy a grill, check out some yard sales or estate sales. Or ask if any employee has an older grill they could donate. Or can the current grill be fixed or updated? How crucial is it you have a grill to use for lunch? Does everyone use it?

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Well I have an idea since your employer wants to put the screws to you guys and make you pay for your ability to prepare meals on site when required to be there for days at a time.

You say you’re retiring in a few months? Awesome.

So you buy the grill by yourself. Make it a big bastard. Preferably something on a trailer. Keep your purchase receipt so you can prove it’s yours.

On your last day at work hitch it up to your truck and take it home with you because it’s yours.

When your shit heel boss calls demanding it be returned remind him you bought it, and it belongs to you and always has. Then tell him to get fucked.

Not petty at all. Our corporate office gives each calibration lab an annual allowance to purchase such things. One may argue that a refrigerator and microwave should be provided by all employers but not grills. I think that should include grills too! Happy employees is a good thing.

    Good ideas.

The current grill is pretty much at the end of life. If we get another, it needs to have the wheels removed/bolted down or buy a built in model and make a frame for it. Our grill has been dumped over a few times due to high winds and bent up the frame.

The grill is used by everyone and is for company functions, weekends, holidays, night shifts...etc.

That's not a bad idea. At that rate we could trade in our work F-250 and buy a couple GT-350 Mustangs. Work would be on a whole different level of fun.

As funny as that would be, not my end goal to screw over the other employees. I have a nice built in grill at home in our outdoor kitchen. So far we have 565.00 donated. I seen a built in grill for 895.00 that's NG comparable at HD.

It's not about the money, the employees can buy a grill very easily and it won't hurt us one bit. My lowest paid person is 30.00 an hour as a newb apprentice. Most make 45-60.00 an hour straight time. This is about principle and the chipping away at the little benefits from long ago. Coffee...gone (and I have had upper management ask me to make a pot for tours...lol. Nope). 401k match...gone. Profit sharing...gone. Team building BBQs...gone (unless employees fund it)...etc.

Why is anyone buying a grill? Seems to me working at a PP you could get some dudes to weld together the most bad ass grill known to man. At that point you just need to get your burners and regulator set up.

That is an idea. We have some hot reheat headers that could be built into a killer smoker/grill.

This. The VFD built a badass grill out of stuff the guys had laying around at home. Didn't cost them anything but time. Now they have a monstrosity on wheels. I swear you could put an entire ranch in that thing
