Those are chassis codes, not versions of the V35A-FTS (Type '21).

Ok so this confirms that the affected engines came out of two plants correct?
    1. Tahara Japan
    2. Huntsville, Alabama

However, if you read on, I found it interesting to note there was only a mention of testing swatch samples from Alabama only. There was no mention of testing swatch samples from Tahara Japan.

Could this indicates that to blocks were machined in Alabama and then final engine assembly was performed in Japan?

Ok, let’s say it’s one plant. Multiple shifts, multiple people working on the engine and plant quality control make it very unlikely it was one person.

but, ok, let’s say it’s one person. What do you want to do? Sue this person? Grab a pitchfork and raid their home?

I just don’t see any point wasting time on this thought process.

The key here is the final remedy yet to be announced by Toyota for people like me about to buy a 24, so that we can be reassured of the level Toyota will stand behind their product in a manner befitting their past reputation.

The thought process is if it is indeed a single source type issue, isolating that source could isolate specific VINs and then reduce the number of potential affected engines. Has nothing to do with blame, everything to do with figuring out exactly which engines are affected. Currently we’re told it’s about 105,000 of them, when it could only be 5-10,000 of them if it’s only on a specific persons shift.

Multiple issues are prevalent here. For one QA was not doing their job and missed this entirely which is of huge concern. Or and what everyone here is really looking at is design issues with the engine. If we can nail it down to a single root cause it would alleviate any other concerns one would have about the design of the engine.

Please don't be dismissive to those who are trying to figure out if they need to divest or hold fast on their investments

At this point in time, resale value of my rig has fallen $5k over the past two weeks. The remedy, if deemed unsatisfactory by the masses could cause resale to fall more. The remedy could also bolster resale. It seems prudent to wait and see what Toyota announces.

I fear they will only address the short span of trucks they initially announced, won't include the hybrids even though they are failing, and the remedy won't look like a mass long block replacement with free warranty. In my eye, that's the minimum and anything less than that will cause resale to fall b/c I'll be in line with the rest of the masses dumping this truck for whatever anyone will give me.

The sweet spot to trade out was Memorial Day weekend.

I have managed 24x7 operations before. There are maybe 10 different reasons employees prefer the grave shift: almost all are bad for your business. Never underestimate the potential for off shifts to f*ck something up. It is pretty much infinite.

How does one find out the exact DAY of manufacture? All I see is "02/23" on my inside door sticker.

No need for the recall. A notice is in the app or put VIN on NHTSA web page. If the born on date is a must have, ask dealer to run information report in TIS.

Oh sorry, I totally get your point.

My questions are more trying to pin this down to either a design defect affecting every single V-35A or is it a manufacturing defect. Toyota is claiming it was the later and a bad machining clean out procedure.

For example refer back to the dreaded turbo issue. Many people initially insisted it had to be a design defect that will live on to plague every Tundra sold.

However it turned out to be just a bad batch of wastegate actuators from a supplier.

Yes, I have seen that. If there is any company that I would trust to build a reliable vehicle it would be Toyota. Given the present issues with the Tundra, if there is any company that I would trust to resolve it, it is Toyota. I just wish they'd hurry up and provide us all with the clarity of what the final remedy is going to be.

Yea maybe 15 years ago. When people say I trust Toyota they are probably referring to their past vehicles that were literally bulletproof. But today “Toyota” is totally different than the old school Toyota. People buy Toyota for what reason again?? Reliability and resale value!!! But now that is deflating as we speak. Actually 2007-2021 tundra are going up in value!!

3rd gen problems and need improvement
    •bad gas mileage
    •subpar power for the hybrid
    •cheap plastic
    •wind noise
    •brakes squeal
    •Turn radius
•better way to order the truck!
    •price!
    •reliability
    •turbo lag

    Anybody disagree? :crapstorm:

and then its rinse and repeat ....until Toyota comes out with a resolution for owners. Different thread, different name, same content.

it would be interesting for me to be a fly on the wall at the Toyota Lawyers boardroom, where they are hashing out the best course of action for the

    1) Shareholders 2) Current and Future owners.

    really good video thanks.
I learned the things he's pointing out the hard way with my F150. They straight up did not have the techs needed for electronics work. They had 1 and needed 5.
His points are really good questions to ask of any manufacturer you're considering buying from as they are all problematic.
