Change it out! Those led bulbs are sold every where. The only time mine went out was when the ground needed to be replaced

Hi guys, I just got my '18 Tundra and am also looking at adding the amber LEDs to my truck. I love the look of both of your trucks with the LEDs being in the hood bulge. I'm debating on getting the LEDs for the hood bulge(which you both have) versus YotaLEDs grill lights that actually hook up to the grill itself.

My concern with the hood bulge and maybe you both can provide insight is driving at highway speeds when it's raining or even just driving in general. With having removed the stock plastic insert, does water enter the hood when driving high speeds and if so, where does the water drain? My thoughts would be that the water enters and stays pooled up in there or does it escape the holes where you would have the wiring exit? That would be problematic as it would be dripping onto the electronics/battery. Am I overthinking this too much? LoL.

I found this and really love that it replaces the plastic insert for a steel bracket plate and comes with the lights/harness and everything needed however the question about water entering comes into play...

One thing I definitly would not want to do is cut the horizontal brackets and the retaining mounts that holds the bulge piece down as I've read that at high speeds, the bulge even without modifications has history of coming loose overtime due to worn out molding clips.

IMO I do think the best placement for the lights would be in the hood bulge only without allowing the elements to enter the hood. This is just an idea but I may consider getting YotaLEDs but remove the grill brackets and drill small enough size holes in the OEM plastic insert with rubber washers to get a good waterproof seal.

I have the Baja Designs S8 light, it has back lighting that is amber. Living in the Phoenix area doesn't cause any concern about rain. I did remove the braces to install the light bar. The surround did come loose once due to the clips being weak, new clips solved that issue.

I also have a BD S8 in the hood bulge, using SDHQ mounts. I live in western Oregon and we have all the rain…

For install, I cut three 3” holes with a holesaw behind the bulge for fastener access. A few splashes of water must get through because it seems like my engine cover a a fuzz dirtier than before. Otherwise, I bet the majority of any water intrusion runs out the front, under the bulge.
Honestly, I don’t see any significant change and don’t worry about it.

Do you have any pictures of your hood bulge light setup?

Like, how it goes in? Or just the light in the hood bulge in general?

Not a huge photo guy and my wife just took the truck in to town with our daughter for volleyball practice. Won’t be home for a bit…

The install is pretty well documented on SDHQ’s website.

And other than the color, it looks just like this:

Ahh okay I see how you have it now. I read your post thinking that you drilled the holes in the hood bulge plastic insert for each led with a rubber washer for complete weatherproofing which is what I was considering doing at first to eliminate any possible chance of water entering the hood. After a bit of thought after my initial post I just went ahead and got the led grille lights and mounted them to the actual grille.
