2016 Tundra Pro engine replacement??

    correct it is built up with pressure but the pressure isn’t the issue it’s the clip itself. Even if the pressure wasn’t present that clip would still be locked and that noise would still be there. Pressure or not the clips stuck the noise is still going to be happening because of that small play between the tensioner and the chain. Only way to fix it is to replace the tensioner not the oil or the pressure.

    When I worked for Mazda many years ago we had these Turds called MPV's. They would all come in around the 60k mark with very loud lifters, and before warranty replacement was approved we were told to drain two quarts from the engine and add two quarts of trans. fluid and then run it for a half an hour. (old school). After that we did two oil changes after running it in a bit, then shipped them off. I don't ever remember any of them coming back when I worked there. This might not work with our rigs, but I would definitely try this first on my own truck before tearing everything apart if I was in this situation.

    yeah I mean I would definitely try it, that hole that goes to the tensioner is so small I honestly doubt it would change the outcome but at this point it’s definitely worth a couple hundred dollars rather then thousands ‍♂️

    not sure probably anything 2019+ at least but who knows. My truck might even have a hydraulic tensioner, I looked up the part but it doesn’t say if it has a spring in it or not.

    Question still remains… people complain about the noise but have any engines actually failed? Have any skipped time? Don’t want to pay the money, just keep driving the truck. You’d think if something was actually destroying itself you’ll see shavings in the filter and pan.

    It is funny. I took it to a Jeep dealer after I threw money at 2 cams, rocker arms and lash adjusters because that is an incredible common thing to happen in the Jeep and sounds the same. The dealer said….needs rocker arms. So I said, nope. They are brand new OEM. They said, our guy has been doing only this for 10 years. He knows what it needs. So I told them, he opens it up and finds bad ones then I will happily pay you for fixing it. If he opens it and finds nothing then it is on you and I’m not paying so just how much faith do you have in your guy?

    they crack it open and call me. They say, your motor is bad. Has a wiped bearing on the crank. Really??? I asked, and how do you know that? He said, I had one in here last week and that was what it was. Now, I have never heard a piston rod knock at low rpm and stop with higher rpm. I called BS and asked him in front of his boss and about 4 other mechanics….if this was your jeep would you replace the motor. Imagine the stutters and crawfishing for a few minutes. When he was finally able to talk I told them the lack of immediate response told me all I needed to know. Took the keys and departed. That was 10,000 miles ago. Still ticking. No worse no better. That jeep will tick till it dies or gives me an idea what is wrong. Then I will be in your shoes deciding what to do.

    I agree sometimes when cold on start up leaving on idle I’ll here a louder slapping kind of clack clack. But it’s only happened to me 3 times in all my years owning the truck. I then drive it and it went away.
