Damn, that's gotta be frustrating. A quick search found this article that may be helpful.

    https://www.mightyautoparts.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Tech-Tip-20630.pdf

Bottom line, it sounds like you need to find and eliminate the source of the radio frequency interference at your brother's house.

So essentially anyone with a Toyota that sets foot in a place where interference can occur it's f@cked? This sounds like a Toyota problem not a "you" problem.

What if it's from a neighbor's house? Or city powerlines/utilities?

Yes battery was checked and test results shown, all good. NSS was supposedly checked. As for the "Key RF Signal Interference. RF Response not received (electrical waves present)." I'm quoting directly off the Vehicle Diagnostic Report from Toyota.

That's certainly a possibility that would suck.

The next time the truck doesn't start, I would methodically turn off any electronics around the house, one by one. With any luck, it's something simple like the garage door opener.

Haha. Yes, technically you're correct. It's been determined, not solved. Thus far, there is no solution.

Try to get them to bring another Tundra to the same location. If that truck does not start as well, you can be fairly confident that it is a Tundra problem.

since when is a rogue radio interference a toyota problem? this harkens back to the pirate radio stations in vehicles to fool FCC people (if you are old enough to remember those) :)

    This right here. Prove it.

Did they give him a loaner? If so it is obviously starting up with no interference. How about any other vehicle? No problems at the place, then it is a Toyota issue.

I have a 2024 Tundra. I've been to his place a couple times since I've owned it and no problems for me. But his problem is so intermittent, that I'd have to move in with him to see if it happens to me too. He's got a 2 yr old and a newborn, so no thanks!

If you guys check out the link I posted earlier, you'll see the radio frequency interference with FOBs is a real and fairly common problem. And it's not just with Toyotas.

That doesn't make it any less frustrating for the OP's brother, but finding the problem is half the battle. Finding the solution is the other half.

Trade trucks with him for a couple weeks. Beat his up the mountain in 4lo while yours gets to sit in his driveway, cranking start couple times a day. A win win… for you. :)

I looked up the FCC ID on the key fob it uses 314.35Mhz and 312.10Mhz

and the RFID part uses 134.2Khz.

Lot of different things use that frequency so it could be other brands key fobs or also chamberlain uses that frequency so possibly a problem with the garage door opener nearby.

Faulty 110 volt LED light bulbs (not in the vehicle) in a garage, etc. etc. especially the cheap ones can emit interference that will block low power RF signals. Have seen it cause garage door openers to not work or only have just a few feet of range. Disconnecting these or unscrewing them all of a sudden normal RF operation is resumed. Probably not what is going on with said vehicle but it is food for thought...

Yeah that just came to mind that some LED bulbs interfere with that 300 mhz range

https://www.allstyledoor.com/blog/l... drivers inside, can interfere with each other.

No shot, OP said his brother has a 2 year old and a new born. I’d argue this would destroy the interior way faster than driving the other truck in the mountains in 4LO. That backseat stands/ area stands no chance with babies and toddlers. His truck would come back equally as ruined hahah

@SM Tundra I've cleaned up my daughter and SIL vehicle a couple times; 4 children, 7/5/3/and 6months. It is TRULY an experience and generally takes all day. Shop vac gets a great workout! Fortunately leather seats can be scrubbed pretty well and then conditioned. Carpets--well, they take time to dry after cleaning.
